Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jays ride Eden to home win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Josh Eden was efficient from the floor and collected his first double-double of the season for the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team in a home win over Haverford Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium. Eden led the Blue Jays with a season-high 21 points and got help from Peter Harding and Matt Lapkowicz, who were also in double digits for E-town in the 76-65 win to snap a three-game losing skid.

It was a one possession game through the first nine minutes of play with three ties and each team holding the lead three times until Elizabethtown (2-3) Brian Lukacsy extended the lead to five with a steal and a fast break lay-in after he forced Michael Wiper into a turnover on the dribble near mid-court. Lukacsy played a key role off the bench for the Blue Jays.

Joe Scibelli dropped in a trey, three of his game-high 29 points, to cut the deficit to three, 16-13, with 9:14 left in the first half. From there, E-town would stretch the lead to as many as 15 on a Lapkowicz three-pointer. Connor Moffatt nailed a jumper from the elbow to keep it at 15, though Haverford (1-5) would trim it down by another point and went into the locker room behind 39-25 to E-town.

The Fords would begin the second half on a 22-7 run that would restore the lead for the visitors, 47-46, with 11:45 remaining. Grayson Roth capped the run with one of his three treys. Haverford hit ten three-pointers in total, while Elizabethtown connected on seven.

The teams battled back and forth for the lead and ultimately E-town would take the momentum, and the lead, back for good. Down by two, Lapkowicz rose above his defender from beyond the arc, sank the three and drew the foul that put the Jays back in front. In less than four minutes from that make, Elizabethtown was back up by ten and had Haverford on the ropes.

The Blue Jays' foul shooting became the difference in the non-conference contest down the stretch as they made more free throws total (19) then the Fords attempted (16). 14 of their 19 made foul shots came in the final 20 minutes of play.

Along with Eden's team-high 21 points, he also grabbed 11 rebounds. Harding added 16 points while Lapkowicz dropped 13. Both players hit three treys. Lukacsy contributed nine points off the bench and grabbed four rebounds, including two key offensive boards in the waning minutes of the game to keep possession with the Jays and the clock ticking.

Elizabethtown will begin Landmark Conference play on Saturday, December 3 at Moravian. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
