Good win as field hockey knocks off Catholic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Saturday's win over Catholic was a little bit of redemption for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. Defeated by the Cardinals at Wolf Field in the Landmark Championship the last time they met, the Blue Jays exacted some revenge with a 1-0 shutout win over CUA thanks to Charity Good's second-half goal.

Catholic (6-4, 2-1 Landmark) knocked on the door several times in the opening ten minutes, but only one shot made it to Margo Donlin, which she saved.

After the pressure was alleviated, Elizabethtown (7-4, 3-0 Landmark) settled into the flow of the game. Nicole Leaf let off a blast that ricocheted off the leg pad of Cardinals' goalie Analisa Scott. Leaf's shot a minute later went right.

Leaf had a third scoring chance late in the first half saved by Scott and the teams went into halftime tied 0-0. Donlin made three first-half saves before Hannah Mack took over for the second half.

Allison McLamb generated the first chance for the Jays in the final 35 minutes, cutting into the circle along the right side and wristed a shot toward Scott. The senior saved the attempt.

She would not be able to keep out the next one, however, as Good latched onto a loose ball that was put into the mixer in front of the CUA goal. Good poked a shot into the cage by the right post to give E-town the 1-0 lead early in the half. It was her fourth of the season.

The Blue Jay defense took on the task of handling Catholic's attack for over 25 minutes and held up admirably. The Cardinals were limited to just three shots, one of which Mack saved. They also had four penalty corners over the course of the final half, but E-town played them well and did not allow a good look at goal.

Donlin and Mack combined on another shutout and totaled four saves. Mack got the win to move her season record to 2-1.

The win boosted Elizabethtown to the top of the conference standings. Catholic and E-town came into Saturday's game both unbeaten at 2-0. The Blue Jays host Moravian on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. and look to improve that mark to 4-0.
