Field hockey finishes perfect run through Landmark with win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- For the first time under head coach Brandy Michael, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team went perfect through its conference schedule after the Blue Jays toppled Juniata 3-1 on Saturday. Three different players scored for E-town in the win.

Elizabethtown (12-4, 7-0 Landmark) played like the top overall seed in the upcoming Landmark tournament. The Blue Jays put Juniata (8-10, 3-4 Landmark) on its heels through the first ten minutes.

Emma Christman (3) and Megan Eppley both had chances denied by Kylie Edwards.

The offensive pressure finally amounted to a goal at the 22:39 mark when Olivia Beachley connected on her third goal of the season, set up by Nicole Leaf. E-town led 1-0 at the half.

Leaf had a pair of shots from close in on the left wing saved by Edwards in the first five minutes of the second half as Elizabethtown looked to open up the lead.

It would go the other way, in fact, as the Eagles' Rachel Weigel tallied her second of the season at 43:55.

That chance would be the last of the real opportunities for Juniata as the E-town defense clamped down on the hosts, only allowing one more shot the remainder of the game.

All it took was a 54 second span between 51:35 and 52:29 for the Blue Jays to pull away from Juniata. First, Addie Stang knocked in her second of the season. Charity Good followed that up with her ninth of the year, assisted by Emma Christman, and by the 53-minute mark, the Jays were up 3-1 and didn't look back.

Elizabethtown outshot Juniata 19-6 and had 15 penalty corners to just five for the Eagles. Hannah Mack started the game and made three saves in the first half. Margo Donlin got the win and only needed one save to do it.

The field hockey team knocked Juniata out of the Landmark playoffs and will face Goucher on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Wolf Field.
