Petrella lone victor, #ECSWIM closes regular season at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Elizabethtown swimming concluded the regular season Wednesday evening by making up Saturday's snowed out meet at McDaniel, but it was the Green Terror picking up a pair of wins.

The McDaniel men claimed a 52-33 advantage over the Jays, while the Green Terror women won all 10 events to defeat E-town 55-21.

Nick Petrella was Elizabethtown's (3-7) lone winner on the night, leading freshman teammate Sam Hirshberg to a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Petrella went 2:10.52, while Hirshberg clocked in at 2:15.72.

David Foery grabbed second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:55.47) and 100 free (52.23). He also teamed with Petrella, Kieran Koehler and Tommy Kuhn for a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay (1:47.17).

Kuhn came within a tenth of a second of his season best in the 50 free (23.90) and James McTighe improved his 500 free mark by 10 seconds, lowering his season best time to 5:50.23.

Guillaume Gouronc snagged a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.01) and was followed closely by Kieran Koehler, who was third in 2:31.13.

Amanda Long went stroke-for-stroke with McDaniel's Carly Deickman in the 200 breast, nearly eclipsing her season best with a 2:39.50. Deickman grabbed the win by eight-hundredths of a second.

Rookie Erika Cole set new benchmarks in both sprint freestyle events. Cole took third in the 50 free with a season best 26.86 and her 1:00.29 in the 100 free was nearly a second faster than her previous best.

Katie Derreth showed close to a 12-second improvement in the 500 free with her personal fast time of 6:45.69.

The E-town women dropped to 4-7 in dual meets with the defeat.

Elizabethtown will shoot for fast times and medals in the Landmark Conference Championships Feb. 12-14 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center in Boyds, Md.
