Martin, Forjan dominate Drew in win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team took sole possession of fourth place in the Landmark Conference with a 65-50 win over Drew Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium. Rachel Forjan had a game-high 24 points and Emily Martin put up her eighth double-double of the season as the pair of upperclassmen dominated the Rangers.

Forjan and Martin were held in check in the first half, only combining for 11 points. Elizabethtown (8-5, 4-3 Landmark) led 19-12 after the first quarter.

Drew's Sam Lane brought the Rangers within a basket when she beat the halftime buzzer with a two-point bucket from just inside the three-point line at the top of the key. The Jays led Drew (6-10, 3-4 Landmark) 27-25 at the break.

Elizabethtown broke away in the third quarter by outscoring Drew, 20-8, to lead 47-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

Forjan shot 4-for-5 and hit both of her three-point attempts in the third. Martin added six points and three boards.

In the fourth, it was more of the Forjan-and-Martin show. Forjan dropped another three treys and Martin posted another seven points and four rebounds. The pair combined for 32 second-half points and 43 for the game, nearly two-thirds of the Blue Jays' point total.

Another key to the game was the points off turnovers. E-town forced 20 turnovers and had 24 points off those turnovers. The Jays had a season-low nine turnovers on the night.

For Forjan, it was her second straight 20-plus point effort and fourth of the season. Martin notched her fourth double-double in the last five games. Alyssa Aichele added seven points, nine boards, and five steals.

The women's basketball will remain at home to host Goucher on Saturday, January 16 at 4 p.m.
