Blue Jays split at Crosstown Crossover

READING, Pa. – Elizabethtown fell for the first time this season, 3-0, to Franklin & Marshall at Saturday's Crosstown Crossover. The Blue Jays didn't dwell on the defeat, rebounding to sweep host Penn State Berks, 3-0, to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Mackenzie Garner paced the Jays (3-1) with 10 kills and three blocks in the win over the Nittany Lions (0-3). Elizabethtown was in control from start-to-finish, winning the first set 25-16 and following it up with 25-21 and 25-17 triumphs in sets two and three.

Kristin Halliday added a career-high 22 assists and five digs. Karley Ice amassed six of E-town's 24 kills.

In the opener against F&M (3-0), Kristina Smith, Juliana Mowen and Janae Moran all had four kills apiece, but the Blue and Gray found attacking tough against the unbeaten Diplomats.

Shannon Deck dug out eight attacks from F&M, while Steph High had nine assists and seven digs.

Elizabethtown hosts Haverford in its home opener Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will be held at Elizabethtown Area High School (600 E. High St., Elizabethtown, PA, 17022) as Thompson Gymnasium undergoes floor renovations.
