Field hockey falls to Eastern

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College field hockey team dealt with another tough team in Eastern on a dreary Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles, who have been receiving votes in the recent NFHCA poll, took the non-conference contest at Wolf Field by a final of 5-2. Alyssa Aichele and Jacki Hikes scored for E-town.

Aichele, named the Landmark's Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, set a single-season career-high in goals with her eighth of the year a little over five minutes into the game. The senior latched onto a rebound off Megan Eppley's shot and sent it in from the left post.

Elizabethtown's (4-4) lead lasted for 26 seconds as Danielle Frasca scored on Eastern's (7-1) next attack down the field. Jess Kinzler and Gina Miller also tallied for the Eagles, who went up 3-1.

Hikes got her fifth of the year with just under five minutes to go before the half. Hikes inserted the Jays' penalty corner and got her stick on the shot of Nicole Leaf. The redirection went straight into the cage to bring E-town within a goal at the half.

The Jays had seven second-half shots, but could not get one of them past Eastern goalie Nicole Berger. She finished with seven saves in the game.

Hayley Williams had a penalty stroke for Eastern at the 54:48 mark, but as she has done before, Margo Donlin was equal to the task, diving to her right and saving a would-be goal to keep EC within two, 4-2. Donlin also had seven saves in the game.

Frasca added her second of the game late as the Eagles went on to the 5-2 win to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.

E-town is back home on Saturday, October 3 for a Landmark Conference game against Goucher at 1 p.m.
