Blue Jays' offense silenced by No. 9 Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College field hockey team's high-powered offense of late ran into some trouble Tuesday evening in its non-conference game at nationally-ranked No. 9 Ursinus. The Bears held the Blue Jays scoreless, 4-0.

Ursinus (3-1), ranked ninth for the second consecutive week in the NFHCA Division III poll, gave Elizabethtown (2-3) all it could handle. The Bears fired off 30 shots in the game, with 18 of those coming in the first half.

E-town was able to withstand the Bears' onslaught of shots in the opening 35 minutes, going into halftime down just 1-0. Goalie Margo Donlin made eight of her career-high 11 saves in the first half.

The first shot from Ursinus came off a penalty corner insert, but Donlin stopped Megan Keenan's chance. Minutes later off another Bears' penalty corner, Addie Stang came to the rescue with her first of two defensive saves in the half to keep it scoreless.

Brooke Overly managed to score the game's first goal about ten minutes before halftime for Ursinus.

It was nearly 2-0 seconds before the break, as Amber Steigerwalt tried beating the clock, but Donlin's initial save was enough to keep it out and Stang followed that up with her second defensive save just before the buzzer.

The Bears broke through three times in the second half to open up the lead. Ann Kopera had two while Steigerwalt grabbed the third of the half and final goal of the game.

Reigning conference offensive athlete of the week Alyssa Aichele recorded both of the Jays' shots. She forced Danielle DeSpirito into making her only save of the game. Aichele's second chance of the night went wide.

The field hockey team will look to get back on track when it hosts Wesley on Wednesday, September 23 at Wolf Field. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
