Baseball falls to York, 4-1, at Santander Stadium

YORK, Pa. – Aaron Rahn and Tyler Weary collected two hits apiece, but Elizabethtown stranded 10 runners in a 4-1 loss to York (Pa.) Thursday evening at Santander Stadium, home of the Atlantic League's York Revolution.

Down 2-0 in the third, Weary connected for a two-out double to the gap in left center and scored on Luke Gatti's single to left.

York was able to neutralize the Blue Jays' (16-9) run when it came back with one of its own in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Logan Countryman. The Spartans got their first two runners on base via a walk and fielder's choice, but E-town starter Dylan Manning induced designated hitter Sean Mohollen into a 6-4-3 double play. He could not escape unscathed, however, allowing Countryman's single before striking out Christian Bilan to end the inning.

Elizabethtown's best chances to score came early. Alex Holbert hit a one-out single and stole second in the top of the first, but was thrown out at third on a Weary single later in the inning.

The Jays put two more men on base in the second. Rahn singled and catcher Frank Ragozzino drew a base on balls against Spartan (11-12) pitcher Joel Kenney, but Kenney retired Austin Kibler on a fly out to left, ending the threat.

York extended its lead to 3-1 in the fourth, using a leadoff double from No. 8 hitter Seth Brosius and J.J. Oleniacz's sac fly to score the insurance run. The hosts would tack on another in the eighth on an RBI single by Brad Wenzel.

Manning absorbed his first loss of the season after going 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out four. Josh Kwak got the next seven outs, doing so in scoreless fashion and fanning three. Anthony Lippy threw a scoreless seventh and Richy Masciarelli worked the eighth.

Kenney struck out five over six frames to pick up his first win of the season for YCP. Though he allowed six hits and walked four, Kenney got out of jams when he had to and yielded only E-town's third-inning run. Mark Breitenbach earned a three-inning save and also struck out five.

Gatti, Holbert, Nick Lorenz and Ragozzino supplemented Rahn and Weary's two hits with one each. Holbert also stole his team-leading seventh base. York, meanwhile, finished with 10 hits. Bilan, Countryman, Scott Steffy and Wenzel all had multi-hit games for the Spartans.

The Blue Jays will embark on the long trip up to Kings Point for a three-game Landmark series with the United States Merchant Marine Academy starting Saturday at 1 p.m.
