Women's lacrosse falls to Goucher

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Looking to string together a pair of wins after a victory in its last time out, the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team went into the second half tied 7-7 with Goucher on Friday. The Gophers outscored the Jays 7-3 in the final 30 minutes to claim the Landmark Conference win 14-10.

Addie Stang, Cierra Eckenrode, and Carly Thompson scored for Elizabethtown (4-6, 1-2 Landmark) within the first ten minutes and had the Jays up 3-1. Katie Thompson assisted on Stang's game-opening goal at 28:02, Eckenrode tallied unassisted at 23:33, and Carly Thompson took a pass from Katie Thompson at 22:57.

Sophie Smith tied the game at 1-1 with 23:49 on the clock, 16 seconds before Eckenrode broke the tie.

Up 4-1, the Blue Jays were in control of the first half, winning five of the first six draw controls and utilizing the possession to their advantage.

Emily Gill stopped a Kirstin Quilty shot and that seemed to spark Goucher (8-4, 2-1 Landmark), who scored three unanswered goals in a three minute span to knot the game back up with 16:03 left in the first half.

Stang and Dana Robidoux gave E-town a two-goal lead with consecutive goals, but the Gophers stormed back with three more unanswered to take its first lead of the game at 7-6. Robidoux got her second of the half with less than a minute before the break with Elizabethtown up a player.

Goucher came out of halftime on a mission, scoring the first seven goals of the second half to double up the Jays, 14-7. E-town held the Gopher scoreless over the final 11 minutes, but could only score three goals, all coming in the last six minutes.

Robidoux scored her 18th and 19th of the season while Stang got her 37th. The duo each had four goals for the Blue Jays to lead the way.

Stefi Perry had a game-high five goals for Goucher, while Rita Meissner and Sophie Smith each had four. Gill made seven saves in goal.

Michelle Fuller had eight saves for Elizabethtown.

The women's lacrosse team will travel to face Drew on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
