SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Elizabethtown tried to claw its way back from a four-run deficit Sunday afternoon at Susquehanna, but could only get within a run, falling 4-3 to conclude Landmark Conference play.

The loss, coupled with Moravian's 9-4 victory over Merchant Marine, dropped the Blue Jays to third in the final regular season standings. Elizabethtown will open a semifinal series at second-seeded Moravian next Saturday at 11 a.m.

Nick Gulla took the ball in the series finale and held the Crusaders (17-17, 10-11 Landmark) to two runs over the first four innings. Though the sophomore struggled with his command early, issuing four walks in the first two innings, he only allowed two hits in that time to limit the damage.

E-town (24-13, 13-8 Landmark) got a runner aboard in the top of the first, when senior center fielder Alex Holbert, coming off his 100th career hit Saturday, singled to right. Holbert would move to second on a ground out by Tyler Weary, but the Blue Jays were unable bring him around with the game's first run.

Susquehanna starter A.J. Pinto would then silence the Jays' bats over the next four innings, allowing just a Weary single in the fourth.

Holding its 2-0 lead in the fifth, Susquehanna put Josh Cimino on with a lead off single and Jonny Vizcaino was hit by a Gulla pitch. Chris Ryan sacrificed the runners up a base, ending Gulla's day.

The first batter Anthony Lippy faced out of the pen was Cory Fallon. Fallon doubled the Crusaders' lead with a two-run single to right field, hanging Gulla with four runs against on the afternoon.

Elizabethtown finally got something going against Pinto in the sixth.

Austin Kibler led off with a single back through the box and Kyle Fackler wasted no time driving him home on a triple to the gap in left center. Luke Gatti would add a sacrifice fly against reliever Eric Soranno to cut SU's lead in half.

The Blue Jays got even closer in the seventh when Aaron Rahn doubled to start the frame and later scored on an error.

Cole Luzins and Liam Conboy would keep E-town off the board the rest of the way, however, with Conboy registering his fifth save.

Fackler had two of the Jays' seven hits and Colby Smith was 1-for-4. Lippy allowed two hits and two walks over two innings and Taras Letnaunchyn was perfect over 1.2 innings.

Elizabethtown will wrap up the regular season Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., when it makes the short trip to Penn State Harrisburg.
