Stang surpasses 50-goal mark in season-ending win at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Six goals from Addie Stang and Dana Robidoux's seven points lifted Elizabethtown women's lacrosse to an 18-7 victory at Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday evening in its final game of 2015.

Stang became the 13th player in Blue Jay women's lacrosse history to record a 50-goal season, finishing with 51 and moving into a 10th-place tie on the program's single-season goal scoring list with Sarah Cullinan.

It took all of 27 seconds for Elizabethtown (5-9) to get on the scoreboard.

Carly Thompson controlled the opening draw and the Blue Jays raced into the offensive third of the field before Robidoux whipped a shot past Griffins (8-9) goalie Bria Gillard.

The Robidoux and Stang show took center stage during the first half. Robidoux's first goal, her 22nd of the season, established a new career-high and the junior midfielder from Kennett Square went on to add three more before halftime.

Stang got into the act with four first half goals of her own, leading the visitors to an 8-4 advantage at intermission. The sophomore's goal 1:33 into the second half was her 50th of the year.

E-town registered nine of the first 10 goals after half with seven different players getting on the scoresheet.

Carly Thompson netted her 20th and 21st goals of the season, while twin sister, Katie Thompson set up goals by Carly and Robidoux. Carly totaled two goals and an assist, while Katie had a goal and two helpers.

Stang, Robidoux, Kirstin Quilty, Adriana Bertolino and Jessica Binnig all scored during Elizabethtown's second half run.

Gwynedd Mercy would get two goals in a row with Kelsey Yori scoring at 11:50 and Lauren Mitros finding twine 1:57 from the final horn.

The Blue Jays would cap the scoring, however, as senior defender Emily Young, playing in her final game, netted her first career goal at the 1:47 mark.

Elizabethtown outshot Gwynedd Mercy 37-21 and won 20-of-27 draws, led by six each from Robidoux and Carly Thompson.

Stang, who led all players with 14 shots, secured six ground balls and four draws along with causing four Griffin turnovers. Goalie Michelle Fuller made seven saves.

Starting from scratch little more than 12 months ago, head coach Danielle Seling and assistant Linda Delaney, led the Jays to a four-win improvement from 2014. The Blue Jays also suffered three losses by four goals or less, including a heartbreaking overtime defeat to Eastern in late March.

Elizabethtown averaged 7.3 goals per game more in 2015, allowed almost three goals per game less and showed improvement up-and-down the field.

Stang led the Landmark Conference in goals at the conclusion of play Wednesday and ranked second in points and ground balls (44). Carly Thompson and Robidoux were top five in the league in draw controls. Fuller's 97 saves were top five in the Landmark.
