Thompson, Stang propel Blue Jays to win over Rutgers-Camden

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team surpassed its win total from a year ago with a 13-4 victory over Rutgers-Camden at Wolf Field Sunday afternoon. Four different Blue Jays recorded goals, including five apiece from Carly Thompson and Addie Stang.

The Thompson twins combined on a nice one-two in the Rutgers-Camden (0-2) zone in the first 40 seconds of the game. Katie Thompson dished the ball from behind the net to her sister, Carly, who deposited it into the goal for the game's first tally.

Cecilia Gross tied the game at 1-1 with 25:04 to go in the first half, but Elizabethtown (2-0) would run away with the contest from there, scoring the next nine goals to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

Stang registered four of her five goals in the first half, while C. Thompson netted all five of hers in the first 30 minutes.

With the Jays up 3-1 after two goals from Stang, Megan DeMichele assisted on the next two, first finding Mary Nell Donahue at 22:52 then Adriana Bertolino 51 seconds later to make it 5-1 in favor of E-town.

The Scarlet Raptors managed to outscore Elizabethtown 2-1 in the second half, but it did not matter after the Jays held a 12-2 lead at the break.

Michelle Fuller had a little more activity to deal with in the final 30, making five of her eight saves in the second stanza. She played all 60 minutes, only allowing four goals.

Donahue, Stang, and C. Thompson all recorded free-position goals for the Blue Jays. Gross and Atenas Muniz had FP goals for Rutgers-Camden.

Thompson and Cierra Eckenrode led EC with seven ground balls each. Thompson also added five draw controls. Darian Natividad, Becky Graessle, and K. Thompson caused two turnovers apiece.

The women's lacrosse team will face off with Lycoming tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. on Wolf Field.
