No. 12 Catholic too much for Blue Jays

WASHINGTON, D.C.Addie Stang scored a pair of goals, including her 20th of the season, but 12th-ranked Catholic broke through for 15 first-half goals Saturday afternoon, handing the Blue Jays a 21-3 defeat in their Landmark opener.

Nicole Laitner had a pair of goals and the Cardinals (5-1, 1-0 Landmark) scored six unanswered in the first 9:14 to open a sizable lead.

Stang got Elizabethtown (3-3, 0-1 Landmark) on the board at the 18:17 mark when she cut into the middle of the field and sent a shot past CUA goalie Tricia Pehnke.

Catholic answered with the next nine to put the game out of reach.

In the second half, Dana Robidoux converted her only free position attempt of the day and Stang scored again for the Blue and Gray.

Stang finished with a team-high four shots and four draw controls. Robidoux won a pair of draws, caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

Goalie Michelle Fuller, who was under tremendous pressure during Catholic's 26-shot first half, stopped seven shots.
