Stockton hands Blue Jays first loss at home

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The friendly confines of Wolf Field had been kind to the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse through its first three games at home in 2015. The home field advantage ended Tuesday afternoon with a 14-8 loss to Stockton in non-conference action. The Jays dug themselves a hole early on that they couldn't get out of as the Ospreys led the entire way. Dana Robidoux and Addie Stang each had a hat trick for E-town.

Elizabethtown (3-4) won the opening draw control as Robidoux gained possession for the Jays and immediately went to work in the offensive end. Carly Thompson recorded the first shot of the game, missing right. E-town kept possession and its first shot on goal came from Robidoux, but Mary Stornes made her first of eight saves to keep it scoreless.

Stockton's (7-1) ensuing clear attempt was good and the Ospreys cashed in on their first offensive action of the day. Zoey Kramer scored with less than three minutes off the clock to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

E-town had its fair share of possession, winning five of the first seven draw controls, but turnovers proved costly as Stockton jumped out 3-0 in the first six minutes and led 5-2 at the half. Robidoux scored two of her three in the first half and had the Jays' deficit at 3-2, but the Stockton scored twice more to go back up by three.

Skyler Mahoney-Kendra extended the lead to four goals less than five minutes into the second half as the Ospreys led 6-2. Elizabethtown responded with two goals in 11 seconds from Stang. On her second, which made it 6-4, Stang collected the draw control and took it all the way in for the score.

The lead got back up to four goals, but the Blue Jays didn't go away. Carly Thompson took a feed from Katie Thompson to cut it to 8-5 with 19:08 remaining. After nearly six minutes of scoreless action, Stang completed her hat trick to make it 8-6 with 13:29 left.

The two teams traded the next four goals, two for each side. Mary Nell Donahue and Robidoux each scored their ninth goals of the season as a part of that sequence. The score sat at 10-8, however, for only 11 seconds as Stockton's Nicole Miller made it 11-8. The Ospreys tallied three more times for the 14-8 win.

Michelle Fuller had a season-high 11 saves in the loss. Stang and Becky Graessle each caused three turnovers, while Robidoux led the team with five draw controls. Robidoux and Stang had six ground balls apiece.

The women's lacrosse team hosts Eastern on Thursday, March 26 at 4 p.m.
