Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Jays' rally falls short at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. — Five different players recorded goals for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team in Wednesday evening's non-conference game at Neumann. Down by three at halftime, the Blue Jays came back to tie the game midway through the second half, but the rally fell short and the Knights prevailed by a two-goal margin, 17-15.

Both teams traded goals over the first ten minutes of the contest. Neumann (1-2) was the first to score consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead with 16:03 left in the first half. Addie Stang had the first two Elizabethtown (2-2) goals.

Once Amanda Fedak put the Knights ahead by two, the Jays stormed back to take a two-goal lead of their own. Dana Robidoux, Stang, Mary Nell Donahue, and Stang once more helped give E-town a 6-4 advantage with less than ten minutes in the half.

Neumann finished the half strongly, scoring six of the final seven goals from the 8:42 mark on. Rebecca Dolenti broke a 7-7 tie with her first of three straight to end the half. The Knights led 10-7 at the break.

The Blue Jays cut the deficit to one goal in the first minute of the second half. Carly Thompson grabbed the opening draw control and moments later, Megan DeMichele had her first of three goals in the game.

On the following draw control, Dana Robidoux gained possession of the ball, which eventually led to a free position attempt for DeMichele. The sophomore converted her first attempt on a free position of the season into a goal, bringing E-town within 10-9.

Neumann reclaimed momentum by registering the game's next three goals to expand the lead up to four with 21:43 left to go and would remain ahead by the same margin, 15-11, with 14:38 remaining.

Stang, already within six goals of her 2014 total in just four games, scored her sixth and final goal for the Jays to kick start an E-town rally. Katie Thompson found her sister Carly Thompson for her eighth of the season to make it 15-13 with 10:31 to go. A little over a minute later, DeMichele completed her hat trick on another assist from Katie Thompson. Carly Thompson then tied the game at 15-15 with her second goal in a little over three minutes.

The rally ended there, however, as Knights' goalie Gabby Curry didn't allow a goal over the final 8:11 to see Neumann to its first win of the season. Jordan Hopkins scored what was the game-winning goal with 6:46 left to play. She added a free position goal minutes later for the final margin of victory.

Stang's six goals came on eight shots. Donahue, Carly Thompson, and Robidoux had two each. Robidoux also scored a free position goal. In the loss, Michelle Fuller made seven saves.

The women's lacrosse team is back in action Thursday afternoon at Wolf Field when it hosts Lancaster Bible at 4 p.m.
