Saturday Finals ResultsBOYDS, Md. – Sophomore
Kieran Koehler earned a spot in Saturday night's 100-yard breaststroke consolation final at the Landmark Conference Championships, where he finished 14th to lead Elizabethtown men's swimming.
Koehler came close to setting a new personal best time in the preliminary heats, as his 1:02.13 was just shy of the 1:02.05 he swam last year at the MAC Championships. Koehler's time was good enough for 14th, making him the first individual Blue Jay to advance to a championship or consolation final on the weekend.
The York native identically matched his time in the consolation final, again placing 14th in 1:02.13 and earning his team three points.
While E-town was kept out of finals in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, the conference newcomer still had a number of solid performances Saturday.
David Foery and
Frank Capria were 20th and 21st following the 200 free prelims. Foery established a new career best of 1:50.51. Capria didn't swim the 200 free during his sophomore and junior seasons, but his 1:52.25 at the 2015 Landmark Championships was also a new PR.
Freshman
Clayton Leab posted the 20th best time in the 100 breast with a 1:05.66.
Ethan Weber also picked up time for the Jays with a 1:17.40, a new personal mark. In the 100 fly,
Jake Stonecipher gained 1.5 seconds on his former fast time after an effort of 1:02.31
Elizabethtown did not have entries in the 400 individual medley or 100 backstroke preliminaries, as well as the 800 freestyle relay.
A disqualification in the 200 medley relay and empty spot an 800 free relay team put the Jays at a heavy disadvantage, as they were left without points in the two highest point-paying events. They now trail Drew by more than 60 points for seventh place.
Merchant Marine is still the leader after day two, sitting on an even 700 points and a 329.5-point lead over Susquehanna. Catholic, Scranton and Marywood complete the top five.
The Landmark Championships wrap up Sunday. Preliminaries are again set to start at 10 a.m. The opening session will feature heats in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. The 1,650 freestyle will be contested at 1:30 p.m. Finals begin at 5 p.m.
