Men's basketball bottled up by Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Absent its starting backcourt and facing an aggressive Delaware Valley bunch, Elizabethtown never found its rhythm in a 64-37 loss Tuesday night in Doylestown.

Josh Eden led the Blue Jays with 13 points and Dylan Krieger came off the bench to provide seven points and a team-high nine rebounds, but Elizabethtown (2-8) was 6-of-34 (17.7%) from the floor in the first half.

The teams combined for 17 turnovers before the break and the Jays hung around for the better part of the opening half. Matt Ziegler scored E-town's first five points as the visitors grabbed an early 5-2 lead at the 17:51 mark.

Despite their shooting woes, the Blue Jays drew within 13-11 on Krieger's layup with 9:49 left in the first half. The Aggies (8-1) would run off the next 15 points, however. E-town was held without a point for almost nine minutes before Jake Sweger's basket 54 seconds before the half sent the Blue Jays to the locker room down 28-13.

Delaware Valley would push its lead as high as 29 in the second half and the Blue Jays could only marginally improve their offensive efficiency. They finished 15-of-59 (25.4%) and were held under 40 points for the first time since a 40-38 loss to York (Pa.) during the 1983-84 season.

Ziegler had eight points and six rebounds, and also hit Elizabethtown's only 3-pointer of the evening. Tommy James supplied six rebounds, Sweger five and Eden five to give the Blue and Gray a 48-47 edge on the glass.

Kyle McGee and Peter Harding stepped into the starting lineup for the first time in their careers with point guard Matt Lane and shooting guard Matt Lapkowicz shelved due to injury. McGee handed out a career-high six assists. Junior Brian Lukacsy made his Blue Jay debut and scored his first career point.

The Aggies forced 23 Elizabethtown turnovers and benefited from nine blocks, four of which came from Tyrea Williams.

Tyliek Kimbrough (14 points), Barry Brockington (12) and Alex Matsinye (10) would all score in double figures for the hosts, while Chris Moran hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds. Williams had nine boards.

Delaware Valley didn't have the most productive night from the floor, going 24-of-70 (34.3%), but converted the Blue Jays' turnovers into 22 points. E-town got only four points off 11 DVU giveaways.

Tuesday night's game marked the end of non-conference play for the Blue Jays. They'll now take some time off before starting a string of 14 straight Landmark contests on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Scranton.
