Dearie recognized as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. — Lydia Dearie added another major award to her already impressive list of accolades as she was recognized Thursday as the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete for women's cross country. Dearie is the first student athlete from the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team to receive this distinction.

Dearie may have only competed for the Blue Jays for two seasons, but her list of accomplishments may have you think otherwise. The senior was a two-time All-Landmark First Team runner, including the individual champion this past season. Dearie led the Blue Jays to their second straight league crown and ninth overall. She was also named the Performer of the Year.

Her season was one to remember as she started out the year with three straight top-ten finishes, including an individual win at Elizabethtown's home meet on September 12, the Blue Jay Alumni Challenge. Dearie set numerous personal bests throughout the season. She went sub-22 for the first time in her career on October 17 at Rowan's Inter-Regional Border Battle, where she placed 13th overall out of 229.

For the second consecutive season, Dearie placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional and was named USTFCCA and NCAA All-Mideast Region after finishing 25th. She went on to compete at the NCAA DIII Championships with her teammates for the second year in a row.

Dearie is also an exceptional student having earned a 3.95 cumulative grade point average as a business administration major at E-town. She is a two-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and was named USTFCCCA All-Academic in 2014 and is expected to be chosen once again in 2015.

Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of conference officers, athletic directors, and sports information directors.
