Martin's double-double leads WBB over Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. — Emily Martin posted her third straight double-double and the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team won its third consecutive game, opening up the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament at F&M with a 76-57 win over the Diplomats. Rachel Forjan added 19 for the Blue Jays.

The offense got Elizabethtown (3-1) going in the first half at the Jays outscored Franklin & Marshall (0-3) 36-19 in the first two quarters. Martin and Forjan combined for 23 of the team's 36 first-half points.

Alyssa Aichele came up with the steal 18 seconds after the opening tip and Martin finished off the play with a fastbreak layup to start the scoring. On F&M's next offensive possession, Aichele blocked a layup by Lindsey Powers.

Forjan drained consecutive threes on back-to-back possessions in the second quarter to push E-town's advantage to its biggest of the game, 17, 27-10. The senior dropped her third trey of the quarter two possessions later to make EC up by 20.

Marissa Gingrich's layup put the Jays up by 21 with a little over a minute to go. Gingrich had nine points off the bench for Elizabethtown.

Comfortably ahead, the Blue Jays kept the offense up throughout the second half, putting up 20-point quarters in the third and fourth. F&M did manage to outscore E-town 22-20 in the third, but the hole was already too deep.

Martin added five blocks to her 20-point, 12-rebound performance. Forjan's 19 points came on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. She was also perfect from the foul line, going 4-for-4.

Elizabethtown will face Albright in the championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m.
