Forjan sets career high, Blue Jays take down Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. — Rachel Forjan had the hot hand for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Tuesday night at Lebanon Valley. The senior guard set a new career high with 27 points to lead E-town over the Flying Dutchmen 68-54. The Jays used a lopsided third quarter, outscoring LVC 25-9 to take command of the game.

It was Elizabethtown's (2-1) third game in four days, but the Blue Jays didn't slow down Tuesday night at Sorrentino Gymnasium. In fact, E-town got stronger as the game went on, outscoring Lebanon Valley (1-1) 42-27 in the second half after trailing by a point at the break.

The Dutchmen didn't score their first bucket until Kiely Chaklos' layup with 5:31 remaining in the first quarter. LVC missed on its first seven shots and had three turnovers in the early going.

Forjan hit two threes to key an 8-0 Elizabethtown run to put the Jays ahead 10-4 late in the first. E-town led 12-6 going into the second.

The Blue Jays led by as many as eight but LVC battled back with a 9-0 run of its own to jump back ahead 19-18. The teams traded baskets in the last minute of play before the half. Alyssa Aichele's layup was the final bucket as EC trailed 27-26 after two quarters of play.

A 12-0 spurt to start the half jettisoned Elizabethtown out to a nine point lead over the first 4:09 of the third quarter. Aichele kept an E-town possession alive with one of her six offensive rebounds. Rachel Liszkiewicz finished it off with a layup to start the run. Forjan, Liskiewicz, Abby Beyer, and Emily Martin all had two-point baskets that extended the lead to nine by the 5:51 mark of the third.

Aside from two team offensive rebounds for the Dutchmen, the Jays didn't allow any other offensive boards in the third quarter, denying LVC any second chance opportunities. Lebanon Valley only had eight second-chance points the entire game as E-town dominated the glass with 51 rebounds to 33 for the hosts.

Elizabethtown extended its advantage to 15, 51-36, by the end of the third quarter after outscoring LVC 25-9.

The lead stretched to as many as 17 in the fourth quarter as Corinne Foster's layup put E-town up 61-44 with 4:46 remaining in regulation. The Blue Jay defense held the Dutchmen scoreless over the next three minutes before Bridget Rothert hit a three with 1:38 to go to make it 61-47. Chaklos also hit a trey on the next possession, but by then it was too late. LVC shot just 4-for-22 from beyond the arc.

Forjan and Martin combined to score the final seven points of the game for the Blue Jays, ending with Martin's fastbreak layup on Forjan's assist with five ticks on the clock to give E-town the 68-54 win on the road.

Forjan shot 9-for-16 from the floor with a pair of threes and a 7-for-8 effort at the charity stripe. Martin collected her second straight double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Aichele added nine and a team-high 14 rebounds. Liskiewicz tied Forjan with four assists.

The women's basketball team will be able to get a few days rest before taking part in the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament this coming weekend. E-town plays host Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, November 21 at 3 p.m.
