Women's basketball falls to Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team's season didn't get off to the start it wanted, falling to Marymount (Va.) 62-42 in the Jays' opener on the road.

Marymount (1-0) jumped out to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and held Elizabethtown (0-1) to 18 first-half points. The Saints led 37-18 at the break.

The Blue Jays outscored Marymount 15-14 in the third quarter and had the deficit cut to 15 points after Emily Martin's layup. Martin led E-town with 11 points. She also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Rachel Forjan pitched in nine points while Abby Beyer had eight in her collegiate debut on four-of-eight shooting. As a team, Elizabethtown was 16-for-47 (34 percent) from the field.

The Saints outscored E-town in the paint 30-20 while the Blue Jays had 25 points off turnovers to Marymount's 21.

The women's basketball team will host Haverford tomorrow at 1 p.m., its first time on its new floor since being replaced.
