Women's XC wins eighth consecutive conference crown

TOWSON, Md. — The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team had won seven straight MAC titles before the school made the jump over to the Landmark Conference. The Blue Jays kept the consecutive conference title streak alive, leaving no doubt Saturday at the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships. E-town put six runners in the top ten, including four in the top five to score a meet-low 18 points.

The Blue Jays won the past two MAC league crowns without an individual champion, but Saturday Amelia Tearnan became the first since Traci Tempone's first-place finish in 2011. Tearnan won the 6,000-meter race in 23:04.2.

Two of E-town's top runners during the 2014 season, Amanda Kerno and Lydia Dearie, gave coach Brian Falk's squad a 1-2-3 finish. Kerno came in at 23:09.9 and Dearie claimed third in 23:16.0.

Moravian's Emily Lambright, one of the Landmark's top runners, took fourth in 23:21.6. She was followed by Megan Tursi in 23:27.0. Ashley West of Susquehanna was sixth in 23:32.1 and Casey Quinto closed out the scoring for the Jays with a seventh-place run in 23:40.5.

Elizabethtown's depth proved, once again, to be a great strength as its top seven runners were only separated by 36 seconds.

Freshman Maria Anderson ran a top-ten time, taking eighth in 23:42.2. Liz Wedekind (16th) and Alexis Groce (20th) finished in the top 20 for the second straight conference championship meet.

Susquehanna took second behind E-town with 57 points.

The women's cross country will rest for two weeks before the NCAA Division III Regional meet on Saturday, November 15.
