Blue Jays' win streak snapped by Drew

MADISON, N.J. — An early goal gave the Elizabethtown College field hockey team the lead at Drew in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon, but it did not stand as the Rangers scored three unanswered goals the remainder of the game to snap E-town's five-game win streak.

Kaylee Werner scored for the second straight game for Elizabethtown (9-6, 3-2 Landmark) just 41 seconds into the game. Her second of the season had the Jays up 1-0, but Drew (3-10, 2-3 Landmark) fought back.

Though the following six shots all belonged to the Jays, Sarah Stewart came up with four saves, stopping any chance that came on goal.

Emily Mason prevented Kirby Clark from scoring at 19:11, denying the shot, her fifth of the season. The Rangers did equalize at the 23:16 mark on a goal from Amber De Marco, ten seconds after Madi Sheetz inserted the ball on a penalty corner.

The two squads battled back and forth to open the second half, but E-town was unable to break through. Drew did, however, at 49:19, on Michelle Fallon's goal. The Rangers added an insurance goal almost ten minutes later to make it 3-1 with a little over ten minutes left in the game.

Elizabethtown did not go quietly, amassing seven penalty corners, starting at the 60:35 mark. Taylor Alwine and Werner both had goal scoring opportunities denied by defensive saves, including one in the final ten seconds.

The field hockey team will look to regroup and get back on track tomorrow when they host Moravian at 2 p.m. on Wolf Field.
