The Elizabethtown women's basketball has added Katelyn Vanderhoff as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 season.
Vanderhoff played under Blue Jays co-head coach Sherri Gorman at Lancaster Mennonite High School before playing the first two seasons of her collegiate career at the Division I level with the University of Maine.
As a freshman with the Bears in 2009-10, Vanderhoff appeared in 22 games and made 15 starts. She finished her rookie season fourth on the team in scoring with 6.9 points per game and was third on the squad with five rebounds per contest.
Vanderhoff's scoring and rebounding averages both rose as a sophomore. The Lititz native wound up second on the team with 5.4 rpg and fourth with 8.3 ppg. Vanderhoff played in all 29 games and drew 27 starts.
Following her sophomore season, Vanderhoff transferred to Messiah College to play her final two seasons. A two-year captain, she averaged 12.6 points per game in 2011-12 as a junior, but missed the 2012-13 season due to medical issues.
After receiving a medical hardship from the NCAA, Vanderhoff returned for her senior season in 2013-14 and scored 8.4 points per game. The Falcons went 21-8, won the Commonwealth Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Vanderhoff flourished in a first round win over Randolph-Macon, going for 14 points, seven assists and two steals.
Vanderhoff earned a bachelor of arts in sports management from Messiah in January, 2014.
Vanderhoff has been active in the youth basketball community, serving on camp staffs at Lancaster Mennonite and Maine. She's also served as a coordinator with Messiah's women's basketball camp for 5th-11th graders since 2007 and is currently an assistant coach for 5th, 6th and 8th graders in the Ubuntu basketball program.
A standout multi-sport athlete at Lancaster Mennonite, Vanderhoff was named the Lancaster New-Era Newcomer of the Year in 2006 and received all-star accolades from several news agencies and tournaments during her sophomore year, including the Lancaster New-Era in 2007.
Vanderhoff was chosen as a Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star in 2008, along with being named the league's Female Athlete of the Year. With her leadership, the girls' basketball won two section titles, a league title and a district championship.
