Women's basketball picked fourth in conference poll

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Commonwealth Conference preseason coaches' poll, released Tuesday.

The Blue Jays welcome back two starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team that finished 11-14 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Head coach Yvonne Kauffman begins her 39th season on the Elizabethtown sidelines with 640 career victories, third all-time among Division III coaches.

Leading the Blue Jay offense will be senior guard Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor), who averaged 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds while leading the team with 33 three-pointers and 42 steals.

Senior point guard Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) averaged 6.2 points and 3.4 assists per game before missing the final six games with an injury, and senior forward Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) was a second-team All-Conference selection after finishing with 9.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

Defending NCAA Division III runner-up Messiah College earned six first-place votes and 43 points to grab the top spot in the poll, followed by Lebanon Valley College (36 points), Albright College (one first-place vote, 31 points), Elizabethtown (25 points), Lycoming College and Widener University (24 points) and conference newcomer Arcadia University (13 points).

The Blue Jays open their 2008-09 season on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Randolph-Macon College, and kick off their home schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 19 against Moravian College at Thompson Gymnasium.

ASHLAND, Va. --- Molly Ariail finished with a game-high 20 points and added 10 rebounds as Randolph-Macon College defeated Elizabethtown College 71-48 in the opening round of the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Amanda Hiltunen added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Yellow Jackets (1-0 overall), who never trailed in the season-opening win over the Blue Jays (0-1 overall).

Randolph-Macon bolted to a 41-24 halftime lead as Ariail led the way with 14 points and six rebounds, and the Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to as many as 29 points in the second half.

Leading the Blue Jays with 10 points apiece were Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) and Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's), who added a career-high 14 rebounds.

Randolph-Macon shot 39.1 percent (25-for-64) from the field as a team, but connected on 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the foul line. Elizabethtown finished at 27.7 percent (18-for-65) from the floor and committed 23 turnovers as a team.

The Blue Jays will face Lynchburg College in the second day of the Tip-Off Classic on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

ASHLAND, Va. --- Kylie Lucas scored a game-high 16 points as Lynchburg College defeated Elizabethtown College 67-49 in the Randolph-Macon College Tip-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (1-1 overall) led 31-20 at halftime as by as many as 20 points late in the second half against the Blue Jays (0-2 overall), who shot 26.9 percent (18-for-67) from the field in the game.

Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) led the Blue Jays with a career-high 16 points, including four three-pointers, while Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) had 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for Elizabethtown.

Lynchburg thrived at the foul line in the game, going 27-for-34 (79.4 percent) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays drained just 8-of-19 attempts at the stripe.

Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Jays, while Kristina Darby scored nine points apiece for the Hornets.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Kate Harrison scored 17 points and added nine rebounds and seven assists to lift Moravian College to a 69-65 victory over Elizabethtown College in non-conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Alyssa Bisci and Amy Heffner scored nine points apiece, and each converted critical three-point plays in the final five minutes for the Greyhounds (1-0 overall), who overcame a five-point halftime deficit to pick up the win over the Blue Jays (0-3 overall).

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) led the Blue Jays with 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) finished with 10 points and a career-best 17 boards and Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) came off the bench to drill three three-pointers and finish with 17 points.

Moravian led 10-3 after 5 1/2 minutes of play, but the Blue Jays battled back to tie the score at 12-12 on a layup by Quinn with 10:38 left in the first half. The Greyhounds expanded their lead to six points at 20-14 with seven minutes left in the half, only to see Elizabethtown score 21 of the last 31 points of the period to take a 35-30 lead to intermission.

Montague led the Blue Jays with seven points and eight rebounds in the opening half, while Harrison paced the Blue Jays with 10 points and three assists.

Moravian scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 38-35 lead on a jumper by Harrison with 15:50 to play, but a three-pointer by Strohman knotted the score at 38-38 with 15:04 left.

The Greyhounds held a 50-45 lead with 8:23 to go, but the Blue Jays used a 12-2 run to take a 55-52 lead with 6:44 left following back-to-back three-pointers by Quinn. Two foul shots by Bisci brought the Greyhounds within a point, and Harrison gave Moravian the lead for good with 6:04 left at 56-55.

The Blue Jays trailed 67-60 with 51 seconds to go, but a three-pointer by Quinn, a steal and a layup by Montague pulled Elizabethtown to within 67-65 with 20 seconds left. Jessica Foran canned two free throws to restore a four-point lead for the Greyhounds, and Moravian ran out the clock to seal the win.

Foran finished with 10 points and five steals for Moravian, while Amanda Brown had seven points and nine boards for the Greyhounds. Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) came off the Etown bench to post eight points and four boards in 17 minutes of action.

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) sank two foul shots with 11 seconds remaining to give Elizabethtown College a 69-67 victory over Manhattanville College in the opening round of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament at Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday afternoon.

Romano's free throws broke a 67-67 tie and helped the Blue Jays (1-3 overall) advance to Sunday's championship game against Shenandoah University, which defeated the host Diplomats 74-61 in Saturday's other game.

The Blue Jays led nearly the entire game, only to see the Valiants (1-2 overall) knot the contest on a layup by Carey Hickey with 13 seconds to go. Following Romano's foul shots, Manhattanville had a chance to tie the game but Romano came up with a steal as time ran out to give Elizabethtown the win.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) finished with a season-high 26 points for the Blue Jays, going 4-for-6 from three-point range, while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) posted her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Olivia Nastasi led four Valiants in double figures with 16 points, while Carol Ortiz and Simona Gordon had 12 points each. In a contest in which both teams finished at 44 percent from the field and with 20 turnovers apiece, the Valiants were hurt by going 8-for-16 from the foul line while the Blue Jays hit 17-of-27 from the stripe.

Elizabethtown led 38-29 at halftime, but went nearly four minutes without a field goal in the second half as Manhattanville sliced a 10-point deficit to one at 58-57 with 5:05 to go.

The Blue Jays' lead bounced between one and three points for most of the next four minutes, with Elizabethtown taking a 67-65 lead with 21 seconds to go on a foul shot by Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ). Kofeldt finished with 10 points on the afternoon for the Blue Jays.

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Tournament Most Valuable Player Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) finished with a game-high 21 points as Elizabethtown College defeated Shenandoah University 64-53 in the championship game of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament at Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday.

Quinn also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and had a career-best six steals for the Blue Jays (2-3 overall), and scored seven points during a decisive 10-0 second-half run that turned a 48-41 lead with 7:11 to go into a 58-41 advantage with 4:52 left.

Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) added 15 points off the Elizabethtown bench, while Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) added 10 points and six rebounds to earn All-Tournament team honors for the Blue Jays, who connected on 10-of-29 shots from three-point range as a team.

Despite shooting 33.3 percent (12-for-36) from the field in the first half, Elizabethtown led 32-26 at halftime thanks to six three-pointers, including two apiece by Quinn and Strohman.

The Hornets (1-1 overall) pulled within four points at 37-33 with 13:01 remaining, but the Blue Jays would quickly push the advantage back to seven points and lead by no fewer the rest of the afternoon.

For the tournament, Quinn averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two victories, and has recorded double-doubles in three of the Blue Jays' last four games.

Alexis Hargbol led Shenandoah with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Katherine Flint had eight points and a game-high 11 assists. The Hornets shot 35.5 percent (22-for-62) from the field as a team and missed all seven of their three-point attempts.

Megan Quinn named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior guard Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending Nov. 23, the conference office announced Monday.

Quinn was named Most Valuable Player at Franklin & Marshall College's Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament after averaging 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in victories over Manhattanville (69-67) and Shenandoah (64-53). She scored 26 points in the victory over Manhattanville, and recorded her third double-double of the season with 21 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six steals against Shenandoah.

Quinn also had 18 points and a career-high 14 boards in a 69-65 loss to Landmark Conference favorite Moravian on Wednesday night. For the week, she averaged 21.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while connecting on 10-of-24 shots from three-point range.

The Blue Jays (2-3 overall) will host Swarthmore College on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Thompson Gymnasium.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the second half as Elizabethtown College won its third straight game with a 65-59 win over Swarthmore College in non-conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) added 14 points, including four three-pointers, and had a career-high seven steals as four players finished in double figures for the Blue Jays (3-3 overall). Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) tallied 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals and hit the go-ahead jumper with 4:10 to play to break a 49-49 tie.

Elizabethtown led from the midway point of the first half until the Garnet (0-3 overall) tied the game on two foul shots by Melissa Grigsby with 4:31 to go. However, Ellwood answered on the Blue Jays' next possession to give Etown the lead for good, and added a three-pointer with 2:57 to go to push the Blue Jay advantage to 56-51.

Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) also reached double figures for the Blue Jays, coming off the bench to score 10 points in 21 minutes of playing time. Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) added seven points, five rebounds and a career-high five assists while Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tallied six points and six boards for Elizabethtown.

Kathryn Stockbower paced Swarthmore with game highs of 18 points and 22 rebounds, while Pamela Costello added 12 points and Grigsby tallied 10. However, the Garnet committed 25 turnovers to offset a 43-35 advantage in rebounding.

In the first half, Strohman hit back-to-back three-pointers to cap an 11-2 run and give the Blue Jays a 21-14 lead with 8:04 left. Elizabethtown led 28-22 at intermission behind eight points from Strohman and seven from Ellwood, while Stockbower paced the Garnet with six points and 11 boards.

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Four players finished in double figures as Elizabethtown College won its fourth consecutive game with a 62-53 win at Marywood University in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) tallied team highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Jays (4-3 overall), who did not lead until Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) hit two foul shots with 6:10 left to break a 38-38 tie.

Lizzy Green led the Pacers (3-2 overall) with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds, but Marywood hit just 24.3 percent (9-for-37) from the field in the second half and finished the game at 30.2 percent (19-for-63), including 1-for-14 from three-point range.

Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tallied a season-high 12 points for the Blue Jays, while Strohman added 11 off the bench and Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) also reached double figures with 10 points.

Elizabethtown went 16-for-22 from the foul line in the second half as a team, including 7-for-8 in the final 1:04, and finished with a 48-43 edge in rebounding over the Pacers.

HAVERFORD, Pa. --- Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) finished with 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as Elizabethtown College picked up its fifth straight victory with a 59-53 win at Haverford College in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) added 11 points and a season-high five rebounds off the bench for the Blue Jays (5-3 overall), whose five-game win streak is their longest since posting nine consecutive victories during the 2003-04 season.

Elizabethtown held on for the win despite going without a field goal for the final 8:18 of the game, scoring their final eight points from the foul line as the Fords (0-4 overall) used an 11-0 run to cut a 13-point deficit down to two.

Quinn, whose double-double was her fourth of the season, also tied a career high with three blocked shots for Elizabethtown, which took the lead for good late in the first half and held it despite finishing at 32.8 percent (20-for-61) from the field and 4-for-21 from three-point range.

Brittany Lattisaw led Haverford with 18 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out in the final minute, while Kathleen Abels hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points along with six rebounds.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Blue Jays scored seven of the last nine points to go to halftime with a 33-26 lead. Quinn led the Blue Jays in the opening half with eight points while Lattisaw paced the Fords with 10 points and five rebounds.

Elizabethtown built its lead to double figures on several occasions in the second half, taking its largest lead of the day at 52-39 with 5:51 remaining. However, a layup by Lattisaw and three-pointers by Abels and Alejandra Alvarez brought the Fords to within 52-47 with 4:36 left.

After nearly three minutes of scoreless basketball, Abels connected on another three-pointer to trim the Elizabethtown deficit to 52-50 with 1:46 left. However, Teanna Ziegler (Telford, PA/Souderton) hit two foul shots with 1:23 to go to push the Blue Jay lead to 54-50, and Quinn and Strohman combined to go 5-for-6 from the line in the final 42 seconds to put the game away.

Haverford shot just 30 percent (18-for-60) from the field as a team, but kept the game close by going 6-for-17 from three-point range, including 5-for-14 in the second half. Elizabethtown missed all 10 of its three-point attempts in the second half, but went 10-for-12 from the foul line as a team.

Montague's 20-20 effort boosts Blue Jays over Lycoming, 69-59

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) set career highs of 20 points and 20 rebounds as Elizabethtown College defeated Lycoming College 69-59 in the Commonwealth Conference women's basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday night at Lamade Gymnasium.

Montague became the first Blue Jay to reach 20 points and 20 rebounds in the same game since Susie Young finished with 27 points and 23 boards against Juniata College in 1993. Young was also the last Etown player to grab 20 rebounds in a game, against the University of Scranton in the 1994 Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) also posted a double-double for the Blue Jays (7-4 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) with a game-high 21 points along with 12 rebounds, helping snap the Warriors' seven-game winning streak.

Elizabethtown finished with a 58-39 advantage in rebounding over Lycoming and held the Warriors (8-2 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) to 21.1 percent (8-for-38) from the field in the second half and 31.9 percent (22-for-69) overall.

Andrea Cooper and Allison Mock shared the team high in scoring for Lycoming with 13 points apiece, with Cooper adding nine boards and three assists in 37 minutes of action.

Lycoming led for most of the game's first 12 minutes, but the Blue Jays outscored the Warriors 22-11 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 44-34 lead to halftime. Quinn led all players with 16 points and six rebounds in the first half while Montague added 12 points and six boards for Elizabethtown. Cooper led the Warriors in scoring in the opening 20 minutes by scoring all 13 of her points in the contest.

Elizabethtown took its largest led of the evening at 58-41 on a three-pointer by Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) with 12:04 to play. Lycoming was able to cut the deficit to 63-56 with 1:36 to go, but could get no closer as the Blue Jays hit four foul shots in the final 90 seconds.

Strohman finished with nine points in 24 minutes off the bench for Elizabethtown, while Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) tallied six points and matched her career high with eight rebounds. Kaitlyn Ober and Alicia Engler scored nine points each for Lycoming, with Jessica Zerbee adding four points and a game-high five steals.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A 22-4 run to start the second half enabled 19th-ranked Messiah College to go on to a 73-42 victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Julie Henninger scored a game-high 14 points for the Falcons (10-2 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth), who shot 55.2 percent (32-for-58) from the field in claiming their fifth consecutive victory.

Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) led the Blue Jays (7-5 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) with eight points while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, but Elizabethtown could muster just 27.5 percent (14-for-51) from the field as a team.

The Falcons shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 38-27 lead, and scored 22 of the first 26 points of the second half to take their largest advantage of the day at 60-31 with 12:34 to go.

Elizabethtown would hold Messiah without a point over the next 8 minutes, 24 seconds while scoring nine straight points to cut the Falcon lead to 60-40 with just over four minutes left. However, the Falcons closed the game on a 13-2 run while holding the Blue Jays without a field goal for the final 7:35.

Joining Henninger in double figures for Messiah were Ashley Brooks with 12 points and Michele Schleich and Angie Rapchinski with 10 points each off the Falcon bench. Brooks also contributed four blocked shots and eight rebounds while Silalei Shani and  Schleich each collected eight boards as well.

READING, Pa. --- Bre Dillon scored a game-high 17 points and added seven assists as Albright College defeated Elizabethtown College 72-65 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at the Bollman Center on Wednesday evening.

Dillon scored 13 points in the second half for the Lions (9-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth), who broke a 54-54 tie by holding the Blue Jays (7-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) without a field goal for nearly six minutes midway through the second half.

In all, four players finished in double figures for Albright, as Charlotte Ciccone added 16 points, Annie McMahon tallied 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Jalene Walker netted 10 points for the Lions.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) shared the scoring lead for the Blue Jays with 14 points apiece, while Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tied her career high with 13 points for Elizabethtown, which shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the field in the first half but just 33.3 percent (10-for-30) in the second half.

Elizabethtown held its last lead of the game at 54-52 with 12:21 remaining, but Albright scored nine straight points to take a 61-54 lead with 9:16 to go on a layup by Dillon. The Blue Jays were able to cut their deficit to 63-60 with 5:15 remaining, but a three-point play by Ciccone with 4:18 left pushed the Lions ahead 66-60.

Quinn went 4-for-8 from three-point range for the Blue Jays and pulled a team-high eight rebounds, while Sauerzopf hit 6-for-9 from the field to surpass her previous season high of eight points set against Moravian College on Nov. 19. Romano went 6-for-10 from the field to match her previous high of 13 points set twice previously.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) scored seven of her career-high 17 points during a game-ending 12-0 run as Elizabethtown College overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat Widener University 72-65 in Commonwealth Conference action at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Romano converted a three-point play with 1:58 remaining to tie the game at 65-65, then hit a clutch jumper with 38 seconds left to give the Blue Jays (8-6 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) a 69-65 lead. She sealed the Elizabethtown victory with two foul shots with five seconds left as the Blue Jays held the Pride (10-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) scoreless for the final 3:01.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Jays, while Ali Jury (Halifax, PA/Halifax) provided a key spark off the bench with nine points, seven rebounds and eight blocked shots in 22 minutes of action.

Four players finished in double figures for Widener, led by 18 points and 10 rebounds from Casey Pritz before she fouled out with 1:58 left. Beth Dessart Mager added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Pride, which went just 11-for-41 (26.8 percent) from the field in the second half.

Widener got off to a quick start, taking its largest lead of the day at 30-15 following a three-pointer by Barbara Fleming with 8:12 left. Elizabethtown trimmed the deficit to 35-27 at halftime as Quinn led all players with 10 points in the opening half.

Elizabethtown pulled within 35-32 on a three-pointer by Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) and a layup by Romano, but Widener built their  lead back to 13 points  at 47-34 on a three-pointer by Katie Gallagher with 14:33 to go.

A foul shot by Fleming gave the Pride its last double-digit lead at 54-44 with 8:28 to play, but Quinn rattled off six points during a Blue Jay run that narrowed the Widener lead  to 56-54 with 6:13 to play.

The teams traded baskets for the next three minutes, with Widener scoring for the final time on a three-point play by Pritz with 3:01 to go. The Pride missed their last eight field-goal attempts and a pair of foul shots during the drought.

Kofeldt hit three three-pointers and finished with nine points for the Blue Jays, while Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) added eight points, five rebounds and two blocks. Fleming tallied 12 points and five boards for Widener, with Becky Tyler also reaching double figures with 11 points to go with seven rebounds.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Lori Lidlow scored a game-high 23 points as Lebanon Valley College defeated Elizabethtown College 72-51 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Dutchmen (11-4 overall, 4-1 Commonwealth) placed five players in double figures and forced the Blue Jays (8-7 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) into 24 turnovers to come away with the victory.

Eryn Schultz added 15 points for Lebanon Valley, while Megan Bish and Suzie Noyes scored 11 points each off the Dutchmen bench. Andrea Hoover was the fifth player to reach double figures for Lebanon Valley, scoring 10 points to go with games highs of eight rebounds and seven assists.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) was the lone player to score in double figures for Elizabethtown, finishing with 11 points. Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds for the Blue Jays while Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) finished with eight points and four boards.

The Dutchmen trailed just briefly in the game's opening moments, taking a 33-23 lead to hlftime on the strength of nine points each by Lidlow and Schultz. Romano and Kofeldt shared the team lead in scoring for the Blue Jays with six points apiece in the opening half.

The second half was more of the same for Lebanon Valley as their lead never slipped out of double figures. Lidlow led all players by scoring 17 points in the second half while Hoover added eight points.

Lebanon Valley shot 20-for-22 (90.9 percent) from the foul line as a team to offset 42.1 percent (24-for-57) shooting from the field. The Blue Jays went 21-for-47 (44.7 percent) from the floor as a team including 11-for-22 in the second half, but finished just 4-for-5 from the foul line.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor)
added 12 points and tied her career highs with 14 rebounds and five assists for the Blue Jays (9-7 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth), who led by as many as 38 points and finished with a 55-36 edge in rebounds over the Knights (2-14 overall, 0-5 Commonwealth).

Caitlin Sparks led Arcadia with 25 points and 12 rebounds, but the Knights shot just 22.2 percent (14-for-63) from the field and 10-for-21 (47.6 percent) from the foul line as a team.

The Blue Jays scored the game's first seven points en route to building a 27-8 lead with 8:48 left in the first half. Elizabethtown led 36-20 at halftime as Kofeldt paced Elizabethtown with eight points while Quinn added six points and 11 rebounds.

Elizabethtown continued their offensive surge in the second half, shooting an even 50 percent (16-for-32) from the field while limiting Arcadia to just 18.8 percent (6-for-32).

Also reaching double figures for the Blue Jays was Emily Mullen (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg), who sank a pair of three-pointers and finished with 10 points in 11 second-half minutes. ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) set a program record with eight three-pointers and finished with a career-high 24 points as Elizabethtown College defeated Immaculata University 82-66 in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday night.

Kofeldt went 8-for-9 from three-point range and sank her final seven attempts to break the single-game record of seven three-pointers set by Erin Walton against Lycoming College on Feb. 19, 2008. The Blue Jays drilled 14 threes as a team to equal the program single-game mark also set against Lycoming last season.

Coupled with her 4-for-4 performance from beyond the arc in Saturday's 76-41 win at Arcadia University, Kofeldt has made 12 of her last 13 shots from three-point range. For the season, she has made a team-high 41 three-pointers and is shooting 43.6 percent.

The victory was the 650th in the 39-year career of Elizabethtown head coach Yvonne Kauffman, ranking her third in Division III history behind Phil Kahler of St. John Fisher College (757 wins) and Mike Strong of the University of Scranton (700 wins).

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Jays (10-7 overall) while Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) posted career highs of 13 points and 13 rebounds and Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) added 11 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots.

Dominique Murray led the Mighty Macs (6-10 overall) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Bridget Welz added 11 points and six assists and Chelsea McTigue posted 12 points and five boards off the bench.

Both teams shot well from long range, as the Blue Jays finished 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from beyond the three-point line while the Mighty Macs hit five in 10 attempts.

Immaculata recovered from an early seven-point deficit to take a 25-23 lead on a basket by Murray with 2:28 left in the first half. However, three-pointers by Kofeldt and Ellwood sparked an 8-0 run to close the half, giving the Blue Jays a 31-25 lead at intermission.

Elizabethtown shot just 10-for-29 overall from the field in the first half (34.5 percent), but went 6-for-12 from three-point range as Ellwood, Quinn and Kofeldt each sank a pair of threes. Ellwood led all players with nine points and six rebounds in the first half, while Welz paced the Mighty Macs with eight points.

The Blue Jays scored 17 of the second half's first 23 points to take their largest lead to that point at 48-31 on a putback by Ellwood with 14:27 left. Elizabethtown's advantage swelled to 22 points at 69-47 following Kofeldt's seventh three-pointer with 6:57 to go, but the Mighty Macs went on a 13-2 run to pull within 71-60 with 3:57 remaining.

From there, Elizabethtown put the game away as Sauerzopf connected for two layups, Quinn added a basket and Kofeldt hit her record-setting eighth three pointer to push the Blue Jay lead back to 80-63 with 2:23 remaining.

Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) finished with six points, four rebounds and a game-high eight assists for the Blue Jays, who finished with a 48-41 advantage in rebounding over the Mighty Macs and posted a slightly better shooting percentage at 38.8 percent (26-for-67) compared to 24-for-64 (37.5 percent) by Immaculata.

CARLISLE, Pa. --- Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Elizabethtown College could not overcome the strong foul shooting of Dickinson College as the Red Devils claimed an 80-72 victory over the Blue Jays in women's basketball action on Thursday night.

Carole Dempsey led the Red Devils (9-8 overall) with 28 points while Alesha Sisco added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Dickinson, which finished 21-for-22 from the foul line as a team including 15-for-16 in the second half.

Quinn went 12-for-23 from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, to surpass her previous career high of 27 points set against Wesley College on Nov. 18, 2007. She also became the fifth player in program history to make 100 career three-pointers, reaching the milestone on her first trey of the night just over five minutes into the contest.

Using just seven players, Dickinson took care on both ends of the court as they committed just nine turnovers on offense and 12 fouls on defense. Elizabethtown (10-8 overall) finished just 5-for-6 from the foul line as a team, with 16 fewer attempts than Dickinson.

Elizabethtown led by seven points on three different occasions in the first half, as Quinn sank a trio of three-pointers in a two-minute span. The Blue Jays shot 50 percent (15-for-30) from the field in the first half and 6-for-11 from three-point range, but trailed 38-37 at intermission as the Red Devils matched the Blue Jays from the field at 50 percent (16-for-32) while going 6-for-6 at the stripe.

Dempsey led all players with 17 points in the first half on 6-for-9 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 at the line, while Quinn had a team-high 13 points for Elizabethtown after going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-9 overall.

Dickinson did not trail in the second half, turning a one-point lead with 16:20 to go into a 10-point advantage at 64-54 with 10:06 to play. Elizabethtown trailed 70-60 with 7:27 to go, but scored nine striaight points to pull within 70-69 with 5:28 to go.

However, the Blue Jays would go over 4 1/2 minutes without a field goal, and the Red Devils went 8-for-9 from the stripe to clinch the win despite scoring their last field goal with 4:36 to play.

Joining Quinn in double figures for Elizabethtown were Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) and Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) with 11 points each. Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) added eight points and five assists while playing alal 40 minutes for the Blue Jays.

Also reaching double figures for Dickinson were Brooke Muller with 14 points and six assists along with Laura Lyons, who tallied 10 points and five rebounds. The Red Devils shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the field in the game while Elizabethtown finished at 44.1 percent (30-for-68).

Bre Dillon added 13 points, six rebounds and eight assists for the Lions (12-7 overall, 4-3 Commonwealth), who won their third straight game by shooting 48.3 percent (28-for-59) from the field as a team.

Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) and Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) shared the team high in scoring for the Blue Jays (10-9 overall, 3-4 Commonwealth) with 16 points apiece, but Elizabethtown could hit just 25.3 percent (19-for-75) from the field in the contest.

Albright methodically built its lead through the first half, taking a 33-23 advantage to halftime as McGinness led the Lions with eight points. Romano paced the Blue Jays with 12 points in the opening half, while Kofeldt added six on a pair of three-pointers.

In the second half, the Blue Jays went six minutes without a field goal as the Lions moved on top by as many as 23 points at 60-37 following a three-pointer by Dillon with 7:41 left.

Charlotte Ciccone also reached double figures for Albright as she scored 10 points, while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) returned to action after missing seven games due to injury and tallied 11 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes.

Albright finished with a 49-46 edge in rebounds, as Mallory Olsheski led the Lions with nine boards in 20 minutes off the bench. GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Eighth-ranked Messiah College opened the game on a 22-4 run and went on to a 61-42 victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night.

Katie Kalb led the Falcons (19-2 overall, 8-0 Commonwealth) with 15 points, including four three-pointers, as Messiah shot 8-for-16 from three-point range and finished with a 46-27 advantage in rebounds over Elizabethtown (10-10 overall, 3-5 Commonwealth).

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) was the lone player to score in double figures for the Blue Jays as she scored a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds and five steals, but Elizabethtown shot 29.8 percent (17-for-57) from the field in suffering their third consecutive loss.

Kalb hit three three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes as Messiah used a 14-0 run to take a 22-4 lead midway through the first half. The Falcons, who led 29-19 at halftime, shot 32.1 percent from the field in the half but went 5-for-9 from three-point range.

Messiah turned up the shooting in the second half, hitting 56 percent (14-for-25) in building a lead that grew to as large as 26 points at 58-32 with 6:25 to go.

Ashley Brooks joined Kalb in double figures for the Falcons with 11 points to go with six rebounds, while Silalei Shani added eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots.

Klimowicz shot 11-for-12 from the field as the Lions (17-4 overall) won for the 14th time in their last 15 games by shooting 55.7 percent (34-for-61) overall from the field, including 7-for-14 from three-point range.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) led the Blue Jays (10-11 overall) with 18 points, including four three-pointers, but the Blue Jays managed just 37.0 percent (20-for-54) from the field on the evening.

CHESTER, Pa. --- Casey Pritz and Beth Dessart Mager each finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Widener University held Elizabethtown College to one field goal over the final 10 minutes as the Pride defeated the Blue Jays 57-43 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Barbara Fleming added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists while Rayne Reber tallied 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench as the Pride (14-7 overall, 5-3 Commonwealth) finished the game on a 13-2 run over the final 5 minutes, 30 seconds.

Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) led the Blue Jays (10-12 overall, 3-6 Commonwealth) with 14 points while Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) added nine points and 10 rebounds, but Elizabethtown shot just 21 percent (13-for-62) from the field as a team on the afternoon.

Widener never trailed in the first half, taking a 23-18 lead to halftime behind seven points and five rebounds by Reber and six points and five boards by Pritz. Ellwood led the Blue Jays with seven points in the opening half, but Elizabethtown shot 5-for-30 (16.7 percent) from the field.

The Blue Jays tied the game for the first time at 27-27 on a basket by Romano with 15:33 to go, and took its only lead of the day at 31-29 as Romano connected on a jumper with 14:11 remaining.

The final tie of the day came at 37-37 with 9:18 to play following two free throws by Romano, but Dessart Mager gave the Pride the lead for good at 40-37 on a three-pointer with 8:31 left. Elizabethtown trailed 44-41 with 5:30 left, but could manage just two foul shots the rest of the way as Widener scored 13 of the final 15 points.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored eight points for the Blue Jays to move within 36 of becoming the 23rd player in program history to score 1,000 career points. ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Andrea Cooper and Rebecca Leid scored 17 points apiece as Lycoming College defeated Elizabethtown College 65-52 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Warriors (15-6 overall, 4-5 Commonwealth) led from start to finish to earn their fourth consecutive victory, shooting 50 percent (13-for-26) from the field in the second half to turn a three-point halftime lead into a 15-point advantage late.

Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Jays (10-13 overall, 3-7 Commonwealth), who dropped their sixth straight game after shooting 30.4 percent (21-for-69) overall from the field and 5-for-24 from three-point range.

Lycoming scored the game's first nine points, but the Blue Jays answered with seven in a row to cut the Warrior lead to two with 14 minutes left in the first half. Lycoming went back ahead 18-10 midway through the half on a three-pointer by Cooper, only to see Elizabethtown move to within 26-23 at intermission.

Leading 35-31 with 13:57 to go, the Warriors went on a 9-0 run to take a 44-31 lead on a three-point play by Leid with 12:26 remaining. Elizabethtown would pull to within nine on three occasions, but Lycoming limited the Blue Jays to two field goals in the final six minutes of the game.

Allison Mock also reached double figures for Lycoming with 10 points to go with four assists, while Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Jays, who held a 49-43 edge on the glass over the Warriors.

Andrea Hoover led the Dutchmen (15-7 overall, 8-3 Commonwealth) with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists while Suzie Noyes added 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench for Lebanon Valley, which went 8-for-16 from three-point range as a team.

Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored 22 points and tied her career high with 14 rebounds for the Blue Jays (10-14 overall, 3-8 Commonwealth), while Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) added 14 points and six rebounds while connecting on four three-pointers.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored 22 points to become the 23rd player in program history to score 1,000 career points as Elizabethtown College defeated Arcadia University 90-67 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Quinn, who entered the game nine points shy of the milestone, hit a foul shot 11 seconds into the second half to reach 1,000 points for her career. Her teammates celebrated with her in front of the Blue Jay bench and unfurled a banner to commemorate the achievement, which came in Quinn's final career game.

The Blue Jays (11-14 overall, 4-8 Commonwealth) posted a season high in points and placed four players in double figures to close out the 2008-09 season with a victory over the Knights (4-21 overall, 0-12 Commonwealth). Elizabethtown finished with a 55-38 advantage in rebounds and shot 58.8 percent (20-for-34) from the field in the second half.

Courtney Kofeldt (Coatesville, PA/Holy Spirit, NJ) chipped in with 16 points for the Blue Jays, while Kelly Sauerzopf (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley) added a season-high 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench and Megan Strohman (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) tallied 10 points in 14 minutes as the Etown reserves outscored the Knight subs by a 33-5 margin.

Caitlin Sparks led the Knights with 22 points and seven rebounds while Kim Milligan added 11 points and six assists, but Arcadia shot 36.6 percent (26-for-71) from the field as a team and allowed 53 second-half points to the Blue Jays.

Quinn, who also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season, concludes her career ranked 22nd on the Elizabethtown career scoring list with 1,013 points.

Elizabethtown led 22-20 with eight minutes left in the first half before closing on a 15-7 run to take a 37-27 lead at intermission. Despite picking up three fouls in the first 10 minutes, Quinn led the Blue Jays with eight points and six rebounds while Milligan paced the Knights with nine points.

Leading 44-38 with 16:21 to go, the Blue Jays turned on the offense and went on a 17-5 run to take a 61-43 led on a basket by Sauerzopf with 11:41 to go. Arcadia would pull within 11 at 68-57 with 5:53 remaining, but the Blue Jays closed by scoring 22 of the final 32 points.

Senior Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) finished with eight points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Blue Jays, including her first career three-pointer with 24 seconds left, while fellow senior Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tallied five points, four rebounds and six assists.

Stephanie Ellwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) contributed across the scoresheet for Elizabethtown with six points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals in 31 minutes of action.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior forward Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) was named second-team All-Commonwealth Conference in women's basketball, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Quinn leads the Commonwealth Conference in scoring average at 15.4 points per game, and ranks second in rebounding at 8.2 boards per contest. She also ranks sixth in free-throw percentage at 72.5 percent (74-for-102), seventh in three-pointers per game (1.52) and is third with 2.40 steals per game.

She scored in double figures 19 times in 25 games, including nine double-doubles, and finished the season by becoming the 23rd player in program history to score 1,000 points in a 90-67 win over Arcadia University on Feb. 21.

Quinn finished her Elizabethtown career ranked 22nd on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,013 points, to go with exactly 500 rebounds, 112 three-pointers and 158 steals in 97 games.

Bre Dillon of Albright College was named conference Player of the Year, while playoff champion Widener University saw Casey Pritz take Rookie of the Year honors and Alisa DiBonaventura earn the Coach of the Year award.

The Blue Jays finished 11-14 overall and tied for fifth place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-8 record. Widener won the conference championship with a 75-72 double-overtime victory at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday.
