ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- After an early goal in the second half by Immaculata cut their lead in half, the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team scored two more times over the course of the final 45 minutes to take charge of Friday night's 4-1 non-conference win over the Mighty Macs.
The Blue Jays weren't afraid to go right at the Immaculata backline and eventually that paid off in the seventh minute as
Caba Alvarez netted the Jays' first goal of the season.
Then, later in the half,
Chase Ballinger opened up his Etown scoring account with a one-touch finish off a
Cam Paris cross with less than three minutes to go before halftime. EC led by a pair at the break.
The Mighty Macs grabbed a goal back early on in the second half to stagger the Blue Jays' momentum, but Elizabethtown regrouped and kept coming at IU.
That would turn into
Manny Velazquez's goal in the 74th minute after Etown had worked the ball around before finding the junior midfielder out around the top of the box. His shot curled past the diving goalkeeper and into the left-side net.
Will Withall capped off the three-goal victory with his first, the fourth different goal scorer in the contest for the Jays, in the final five minutes of action.
Logan Sumner made seven saves in goal for Etown to record his first career win.
Elizabethtown hosts Marywood back at Hoover Field on Sunday, September 6, at 1 p.m.
