ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team has been high flying in the attacking end over the past two games after a 3-0 shutout win over Marywood at Jane Hoover Field at Elizabethtown Area High School.
Chase Ballinger and
Caba Alvarez each scored their second goals of the season while
Cam Paris netted the first of his career in the game.
Logan Sumner got his first career clean sheet with three saves.
It took a little while for Elizabethtown to get going, but once Ballinger opened the scoring in the 40th minute, things seemed to come a little easier for the Blue Jays.
Ballinger collected the ball along the left side of the 18 yard box. He was able to beat his defender endline, got in on goal, and squeezed a shot past the Marywood keeper to make it 1-0 for the Jays.
Coming out of the break with a one-goal advantage, Paris made it 2-0 in the 58th minute after Alvarez and
Gui Yamamoto were able to set up the freshman for his first career goal.
With a little over 10 minutes left in regulation, Alvarez iced the game with his second of the season. He took a pass from
Owen Auchenbach and was able to square up on goal from the top of the 18. Despite being a little off balance, the junior was able to curl a left-footed shot around the diving keeper and into the net to make it 3-0.
Sumner wasn't tested often and made the couple saves when needed. He made two in the first half and one in the second half for his first shutout and second win of the year.
The Blue Jays have already matched last year's total of games with three-plus goals; two, and have recorded at least three goals in back-to-back wins for the first time since 2021.
Elizabethtown plays at Penn State Berks on Wednesday, September 9, at 7 p.m.
