ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team fell against Alvernia 2-1 Saturday night at Jane Hoover Field.
Alvernia was the aggressor off the opening whistle of the game and they got on the board in the seventh minute. A free kick delivery from the right wing landed in the middle of the box and was headed in by Chase Malone to make it 1-0.
Elizabethtown responded and gained more control and possession of the ball, but only managed one shot on goal. That was
Caba Alvarez's attempt in the 17th minute. The Blue Jays had a few other attempts blocked and couldn't generate a chance off of six corners.
Cam Paris nearly leveled the game in the 48th minute. The first-year forward ran onto a flicked ball from
Will Withall and ushered a shot toward the right post with the outside of his foot. It came off the post and stayed out. Minutes later, the Golden Wolves scored a second to go up 2-0 on a direct free kick.
Five minutes later, the Jays got their goal response as
Brady Williamson headed home a goal in the 58th minute.
Owen Auchenbach lifted a ball toward the back post. Williamson met the ball with his head and powered it in for the goal.
Down a man later in the second half, Elizabethtown pushed for the game-tying goal as Alvernia was content sitting back and absorbing the pressure. The Jays were able ot threaten but not punch through as AU held off Etown.
The Blue Jays play at Hood on Wednesday, September 23.
