OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A late corner was headed in by Stevenson to spoil the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team's season opener south of the Mason-Dixon Line in Mustang Stadium, 1-0. The Blue Jays were inches from equalizing, but the woodwork kept the ball out as Stevenson hung on for the shutout win over the Blue Jays.

Sam Frey made three first-half saves to keep it scoreless by halftime. The Mustangs led in the shots department through one half, 6-4.
It remainded 0-0 late in the game when the Mustangs were able to grab the lead in the 88th minute off a corner. A header from Landon Eaton in the middle of the box sailed far left corner and into the net to put the home team up a goal.
Elizabethtown was close to getting that goal back just 23 seconds later. A set piece opportunity on the far side was curled into the back post and onto the run of
Evan Berlinski. His touch ricocheted off the crossbar and back into play.
Caba Alvarez had his follow-up attempt on frame saved before the ball eventually went out for an Etown corner.
The Jays ran out of time and couldn't get another chance on target as Stevenson held on for the 1-0 win.
Etown hosts Immaculata on Friday, September 4, at 7:45 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Area High School's Jane Hoover Turf Field.
