ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Three pitchers for the Elizabethtown College softball team combined to allow just three runs across both games against Alvernia at The Nest on Tuesday. The Blue Jays shut out the Golden Wolves in game one, 5-0, and finished the sweep with an 8-3 game-two victory.
Gianna Anzideo and
Sydney Harper each won their fourth games of the season.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 5, ALVERNIA 0
Anzideo had Alvernia all out of sorts as she spread out three hits across her seven innings of work for her complete game victory. Lizzy Williams had all three hits for the Golden Wolves.
The Blue Jays gave their senior hurler a lead in the first on
Morgan Carr's RBI single to left field.
Skye Zolomij also brought home a run with her infield single.
In the third,
Brooke Huczko double to center to score Carr. After Huczko had advanced to third on the throw off her double,
Maddie Reever singled her home to make it 4-0.
Izzy Akelaitis drove in Zolomij in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Lily Baldwin, Carr, Huczko, and Zolomij each had two hits in the game.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 8, ALVERNIA 3
The Golden Wolves were the first ones to score in game two as they plated a run in the first inning, but Etown tied it back up quickly.
Reever drew a bases loaded walk to score Baldwin, which tied the game at 1-1.
The Jays broke the game open in the second with a six-run inning. That started with Baldwin's RBI ground out to second to score
Cassidy Blaskopf, who was on as a pinch runner. Huczko also had an RBI ground out in the inning to make it 3-1. Reever singled to short for an RBI hit and
Jess Dunn cleared the bases with an RBI double to left field.
Alvernia grabbed two runs in the fourth to make it a 7-3 game. Any time Harper ran into trouble, she was able to work out of it and limit any type of damage. The Golden Wolves left 10 runners on base in the game.
Elizabethtown added a final run in the sixth to make it 8-3. Harper threw five innings and struck out two batters.
Mikaela Benner pitched the final two and did not allow a run.
The Blue Jays play at Moravian on Saturday, April 25.
