Blue Jays rally to split at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team rallied in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Susquehanna to split with the River Hawks. Down a run, the Blue Jays came back in the fifth inning and held on for a 5-4 win. Izzy Akelaitis and Jess Dunn each had three hits in the game and Lauren Leshak earned her first career save.

GAME 1: SUSQUEHANNA 3, ELIZABETHTOWN, 1
Morgan Carr had the game tied at 1-1 in the third inning with her RBI double to left, but that's all Elizabethtown could muster in the opening game of the day. The top of the lineup provided the five hits for the Jays, two from Carr and one each from Hannah Long, Lily Baldwin and Brooke Huczko.

Etown left seven on base in the game, including two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

The River Hawks scored once in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and that was enough to get the job done.

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 5, SUSQUEHANNA 4
The Blue Jays went ahead 2-0 in the fourth in game two as the game was scoreless through the first three innings.

Akelaitis singled in Dunn to make it 1-0. Later, Long singled to center to score Akelaitis as Elizabethtown went up by two.

Susquehanna struck back in the bottom half of the fourth with three runs to take their first lead of the game.

Etown answered with three of their own courtesy of Dunn and Akelaitis, who combined for six of the team's 13 hits. Dunn hit a two-RBI single to right field to plate Nicole Cecconi and Huczko. Akelaitis doubled to left center to score Dunn as the Blue Jays retook the lead at 5-3.

Julia Bergen went into the sixth inning before Lauren Leshak came on for the save opportunity. Leshak got the final two outs of the sixth and with a runner in scoring position to tie the game in the seventh, retired the final two batters to close out the game as Elizabethtown was able to get the split.

The Blue Jays host Alvernia on Tuesday, April 21, at 3 and 5 p.m.
