ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to visiting Marymount (Va.) in CVC play, Wednesday evening.
Arun Gopinath led the team with 13 kills while
Mason Boyer totaled 10 kills, two aces, and four blocks.
Patrick Neyer tallied 22 assists, and
Dustin Hagin grabbed 13 digs. As a team the Blue Jays totaled 12 blocks.
Set scores were 22-25, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25.
The two teams traded points to start set one. Three straight from Etown put the Blue Jays ahead, 11-8. After some more back-n-forth, the Blue Jays continued to hold the lead until the Saints evened the score at 18. Gopinath put down a kill before the Saints rattled off five in row to win the set, 25-22.
Set two was just as close as set one start. The Blue Jays also started out with the lead as they tallied four points in a row. Both teams traded points and kills from
Craig Patrick, Gopinath, and Boyer brought the team up, 19-15. Marymount came back within two and then tied up the set at 23 before Etown won the set, 26-24.
Marymount gained momentum in the third set and then carried that over to the fourth. In the third set, the Saints led early before Etown tied up the set at 16. After three in a row from Marymount, they never looked back to take the set, 25-20. Etown struggled to get going in the fourth set as Marymount jumped to an early 11-4 lead. The Blue Jays were able to bring it back within five, but the lead was still too large as the Saints won, 25-18.
Etown heads to New York on Saturday to face ranked Stevens and Vassar.
