Bergen, Buckmaster win first career games in sweep at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. -- First-year pitchers Julia Bergen and Aubrey Buckmaster earned their first career wins for the Elizabethtown College softball team on Monday as the Blue Jays swept Hood in non-conference action. Brooke Huczko had three hits in game one while Lily Baldwin went 4-for-4 in game two.

GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 11, HOOD 3
Elizabethtown was relentless in game one as they pounded out 14 hits and scored 11 runs. The Blue Jays scored multiple runs in five of the seven innings.

Jess Dunn scored on a defensive error in the second to make it 1-0. Hannah Long drove in Sarah Birner to put Etown up 2-0.

Dunn's double and Izzy Akelaitis' RBI single made it 4-0 in the third. Lexi O'Brien knocked in two runs in the fifth as Elizabethtown began to pull away.

Brooke Huczko singled up the middle in the sixth and later scored on an error.

O'Brien and Huczko both had RBI hits in the seventh.

Bergen held Hood to three runs, one earned, over seven innings with a strikeout to earn her first career win for the Jays.

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 5, HOOD 4
Cassidy Blaskopf and Emily Bittner put runs on the board for Etown in game two. Blaskopf helped the Blue Jays to a 1-0 lead in the second and Bittner made it 2-0 with her RBI hit in the third.

After Hood scored in the third, Lily Baldwin singled in a run in the fifth, one of her four hits in the game.

The Blazers were able to tie up the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth with two runs, but Elizabethtown answered back in the top half of the seventh.

Dunn doubled in Baldwin to put EC back in front. Brooke Capozzoli hit an RBI sac fly to center to make it 5-3.

Aubrey Buckmaster had come on in the sixth inning, and with the lead in the seventh, was able to get the final three outs to preserve Etown's 5-4 win. It was her first career victory for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown plays at Ursinus on Thursday, April 2, at 3 and 5 p.m.
