Harper wins first game for softball in split at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- Junior Sydney Harper threw a gem for the Elizabethtown College softball team in their game one win at Ursinus. The Bears would take game two as the two teams split Thursday's non-conference doubleheader.

GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 11, URSINUS 1 (FINAL/6 INNINGS)
Harper threw five innings and only allowed two hits and one run to the Bears while striking out one. She received plenty of run support from her offense as the Blue Jays pounded out 17 hits to tie a season-high along with the team's seventh 10-plus run game of the season after only three in 2025.

Brooke Huczko was one of three Jays that went 3-for-4 at the plate. Her RBI single in the first made it 1-0 for Etown. Ursinus got their lone run in the bottom of the first.

Jess Dunn homered in the third, a solo shot, to give the lead back to EC. Morgan Carr hit one of her two doubles in the game in the third, an RBI extra base hit for the freshman, to make it 3-1.

Ahead 4-1 in the sixth, the Jays scored seven runs on eight hits in the top of the inning to take their commanding 11-1 lead. Lexi O'Brien (2), Lily Baldwin, Dunn, Skye Zolomij (pinch hit), and Sarah Birner (2) each had RBIs in the inning.

Hannah Long and Birner were the other two with three-hit games. Nine players in total had at least a hit in the game for Elizabethtown's sixth run-rule victory this season (none last year).

GAME 2: URSINUS 4, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Baldwin hit a two-run home run in the first inning of game two, but the Bears responded quickly with three in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead.

Ursinus scored again in the second and led 4-2, but didn't score the rest of the game. The trouble for the Blue Jays was they were only able to score once more as well. That run came on Morgan Carr's sac fly in the fourth.

The Bears' pitching limited Etown to four hits, all coming in the first inning.

Elizabethtown jumps back into Landmark play at Wilkes on Saturday, April 4, at 12 and 2 p.m.
