No. 17 Swarthmore gets by men's lacrosse

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team battled Swarthmore on Saturday at Wolf Field, but were unable to pull off the upset of another 17th-ranked team as the Garnet got by the Blue Jays, 15-11. Tristan Coleman had a team-high five points (4g,1a) in the game.

Swarthmore jumped out ahead 3-0 in the first quarter until Tom Gress netted Elizabethtown's opening goal on a feed from Jay Rodriguez late in the quarter as the Jays trailed by a pair going into the second.

Reese Levinson scored early in the second as his goal cut it to a one-score game, but the Garnet would outscore Etown 4-2 in the second to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.

Swarthmore went up 8-3 but the Jays rallied with four straight to bring it back to another one-score game. Coleman had a pair of those four tallies for EC. Casey Lamey and Levinson also score once in that run. Gress scored another last-second goal in the third, with 11 seconds to go after scoring with 13 seconds left in the first, and it was 9-8 for Swarthmore going into the fourth.

The Garnet posted six of the first seven goals in the final period to open up a six-goal lead, which was enough in the end. Coleman and Rodriguez both scored later in the fourth and Swarthmore got off Wolf Field with a 15-11 win.

Elizabethtown plays at F&M next Saturday, March 7, at 12 p.m.
