Ambruster Records 100th Career Block in Sweep over Widener

CHESTER, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team earned lucky win number 13 of the season and their fourth sweep as they defeated Widener on the road, 3-0.

Sophomore, Braydon Ambruster recorded his 100th career total blocks while also tallying eight kills and 14 assists. Mason Boyer totaled nine kills, four aces, and eight digs. Patrick Neyer grabbed 20 assists while Arun Gopinath totaled eight kills.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

Etown jumped out to a 5-2 lead to start off set one. Kills from Boyer, Gopinath, Ambruster, and Max Sears put the Jays out in front, 11-7. A 5-1 run from Etown extended the Blue Jays lead by eight points. Widener couldn't catch up before a block from Josh McCoy and Boyer ended the set, 25-20.

To start off the second set the Pride held a 7-4 lead before three straight from the Blue Jays tied up the set at 7-7. The set remained close midway through before another three in row from Etown put the team ahead, 19-13. Sears and Ambruster each put down a kill, extending the Blue Jays lead to 23-16. A service error and a service ace ended the set giving Etown the 25-17 win.

The final set began in a back-n-forth fashion and remained close until four in a row from Etown put them up, 17-11. Reid Maas and Logan Smith smacked down kills to bring the score to 20-15. The two teams traded points through the end of the set. Etown was able to hold on to the lead for a 25-20 win.

Etown will travel to Roanoke on Saturday for a tri-match with Bridgewater (Va.).
