ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team held a halftime lead but saw it slip away in the second half as Washington (Md.) stormed back to take an 8-5 win home on Saturday.
Brent Wehland had a pair of goals for Etown.
Finn Kristan,
Jay Rodriguez, and Wehland got Elizabethtown out to a 3-1 lead through nearly 10 minutes of action. The Shoremen got the final goal of the first quarter with 6:05 remaining.
There was only one tally in the second and that belonged to Etown as
Reese Levinson set up Wehland for his second of the game. The Blue Jays were up 4-1 at halftime.
Washington (Md.) used a pair of third-quarter goals to get within one by the fourth.
While the Shoremen's defense held the Jays to just one goal over the final 37 minutes of the game, the attack took control in the fourth quarter as they outscored Elizabethtown 5-1.
Nate Winters tied the game at 4-4 early in the fourth, but
Tristan Coleman came right back with the answer to restore the Jays' one-goal lead at 5-4 with 12:57 to go.
From there, it was Washington's game and they piled on four more goals to take the lead and then extend it. They added a final dagger with 44 seconds left to seal it.
Elizabethtown will host Swarthmore on Saturday, February 28, at 12 p.m.
