HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown field hockey team grabbed their first win of Landmark Conference play as they defeated Juniata 3-0, in an away game. The Blue Jays offense and defense combined for the win to shutout the Eagles.
Carly Schumacher led the Blue Jays with two goals, and Hailey Meyer added one of her own.
Schumacher got the scoring started for Etown in the first quarter at the 8:19 mark after earning herself a penalty stroke. The freshman converted the stroke, giving the Blue Jays an early lead.
From there, the Blue Jays offense dominated control of the game, getting five more shots on goal before Meyer found the back of the net at the 22-minute mark. Off a rebound from the goalie, Meyer collected the ball and shot it back into the goal.
Just six minutes later, Schumacher got her second goal of the game and the third goal for the Blue Jays. Schumacher controlled the ball from outside the circle, dribbled it up the baseline and sent it into the back of the goal. The freshman's goal secured the win for the Blue Jays as they ended the first half 3-0.
The Blue Jays had five more shots in the third and fourth quarters to end the game. Etown outshot Juniata 14-1 and earned 7-2 on penalty corners.
The Blue Jays will continue conference play on Saturday, October 10th at Scranton.
