ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Once the Elizabethtown College field hockey team got to scoring, it didn't stop in Saturday's 5-0 win on Senior Day over Lycoming.
Sara Watson had a game-high two goals while
Carly Schumacher had two assists for the Blue Jays in the win.
Lily DeBlasio recorded her 100th save of the season in the game.
It was mostly an uneventful first quarter as neither side was able to break through.
Kaylie Noel fired a shot on goal in the last five minutes of the first, but that was saved by Hilary Clark.
Hannah Long batted in a goal 52 seconds into the second quarter. Less than three minutes later, Schumacher set up
Hailey Meyer for the goal to make it 2-0 less than 20 minutes into the game. Schumacher also had the assist on Long's goal.
The second quarter was dominated by the Blue Jays, who didn't allow a shot or penalty corner to Lycoming. They led 2-0 at half.
Similar to the second, Etown got an early goal in the third quarter as Watson got in on goal, going from the end line and maneuvering in front to squeeze a shot past Clark at the 1:39 mark of the third. Watson then added her second goal of the quarter, and second in less than five minutes, capping off an Elizabethtown penalty corner by slotting the ball into the cage from a tight angle.
The Warriors were able to generate some pressure over the remaining five minutes of the third, recording their first three corners of the game. DeBlasio, who stuffed Laurel Fite's shot earlier in the quarter for her 100th of the season, stopped Ava Daly's deflection before consecutive saves on Abie Neidermyer to close out the third.
Lycoming's pressure continued into the fourth as they were awarded three more corners, trying to at least deny Etown's shutout bid. DeBlasio made two more saves in the fourth to keep the shutout intact.
At the other end,
Carly Schumacher added the Jays' fifth goal on another corner play.
Meadow Keet and Watson were then denied by Clark minutes later.
DeBlasio ended the game with six saves for Elizabethtown.
The Blue Jays are on the road at Drew on Tuesday, October 20.
