BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team improved to 5-2 on the season with a commanding 40-10 win at Johns Hopkins Friday night. It is the sixth consecutive win in the Battle for the Belt over JHU. Etown won eight of the 10 bouts on the night.
Hunter Pettorossi made it 6-0 right away, getting a forfeit victory at 125 for Elizabethtown.
Corey Cope then won by tech fall at 133 and
Owen Heffner won via decision as the Jays were out 14-0 through the first three matches of the night.
Johns Hopkins got within four after wins at 149 and 157.
The rest of the match belonged to Etown, however.
Justice Hockenberry used a decision to elevate EC's lead to seven, 17-10.
Gavin Fehr and
Ganon Smith produced back-to-back falls for Elizabethtown, Fehr's in 2:33 and Smith's in 48 seconds as the bonus points piled up.
Will Davis won with a tech fall at 197 and
Sav Niewiadomy added the third pin of the evening for the Blue Jays, at 6:57, to close out the dual match.
Gavin Wagner won in exhibition at 197 with an 11-2 major decision.
Elizabethtown hosts Gettysburg on Saturday, February 7, at 1 p.m. in the Bowers Center.
