Women's soccer Senior Day spoiled by Lebanon Valley

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team celebrated their seniors ahead of Saturday's non-conference matchup with Lebanon Valley at Ira R. Herr Field in the Blue Jays' home opener. The Dutchmen spoiled the day with a 2-0 victory.

It was a slow start for the Jays as Lebanon Valley controlled much of the half and scored an early goal to pin Etown back. Jordan Lasky netted her third of the season in the eighth minute.

LVC led 7-2 in shots by the end of the half. Sophie Shadle's shot in the early going nearly put EC ahead, but her ball floated just over the cross bar onto the top of the net.

Elizabethtown forced Camryn Porter into five second-half saves as the Blue Jays worked to get back into it. Kayla Myer's header in the 48th minute was directed on goal, but Porter made a diving stop to keep it out. Shadle got end line and provided the cross that almost set up the sophomore for the goal.

The Dutchmen doubled their lead minutes later, in the 52nd, on Lasky's second of the day.

Still, Etown pushed to turn the zero into a one on the scoreboard as Jenna Hoffmann's left-footed effort from just outside the 18 was met by Porter.

Later in the second, Hoffmann, Myer, and Grace Tessier combined to get the ball up the left wing and into the box, where Tessier was inches from getting her first career goal, but again, Porter was on the ground for the diving stop to usher the ball out at close range.

Myer provided service into Ashley Rosati, who was cutting across goal in the 81st minute. The senior's flicked-on header was pushed away by Porter as Lebanon Valley maintained its 2-0 lead.

The final chance of the half for the Jays came in the 83rd minute. Olivia Herbert's corner found Hoffmann's head in the middle of the box. The glancing header just bounced outside the far post and wide.

Erin Winslow made two saves in goal for the Blue Jays in her first career start.

Elizabethtown hosts Gettysburg on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
