ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior
Sara Bean converted her penalty kick in the second half as the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team came back to tie Gettysburg on Wednesday at Ira R. Herr Field.
Jane Daiutolo scored early for the Bullets, fizzing a shot just inside the near post to give Gettysburg a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
That lead held firm as Etown couldn't get a hold of the game through the first 45 minutes, trailing in shots 8-3.
A reinvigorated side at the start of the second half, the Jays were buzzing in possession and played like the better side over the final 45.
The work would pay off as
Meghan McGonagle got around her defender in the box and got tripped up on the play. Without hesitation, the referee blew his whistle to grant Elizabethtown the penalty and it was Bean that stepped up to take it. Fully composed on the ball, the junior whipped in a shot that left goalie Alex Jurow no chance at saving to level the match at 1-1 in the 72nd minute.
Erin Winslow, earning her second consecutive start, made two important saves in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep it at 1-0.
A last chance at getting the game-winner was knocked away in the final seconds as the Blue Jays looked to counter late on, but to no avail.
Elizabethtown plays at Stevenson on Saturday, September 13, at 4 p.m.
