ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Penn State Harrisburg won a back-and-forth affair at Wolf Field Wednesday night against the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. The Lions were able to better the Blue Jays by a final of 3-2.
Penn State Harrisburg's Ami Mattingly collected a rebound off Faith Musser's shot in the first quarter and stuck it home to make it 1-0 for the Lions.
Elizabethtown got even early in the second quarter as
Hannah Long poked a ball toward goal that got past Macenzie Mulholland to make it 1-1.
PSH responded two and a half minutes later on a penalty corner as Mattingly scored her second of the game and the visitors led 2-1 at half.
Sara Watson made it 2-2 nearly six minutes into the third quarter as
Sophie Myers got into the circle to set up the opportunity for Watson.
28 seconds later, Harrisburg retook the lead, ultimately for good, on Anna Moyer's follow-up attempt after a ball had deflected off the post into the vicinity of Moyer, who scored the go-ahead goal.
After the Blue Jays had spent much of the third quarter in the Lions' end, PSH returned the favor in the fourth and hounded the Jays' defensively.
Lily DeBlasio made five fourth quarter saves.
Sydney Sinko had a defensive save in each half, including one in the fourth.
Elizabethtown will host Wilkes to open conference play on Saturday, September 27, at 1 p.m.
