Men's lacrosse moves on to Landmark Championship

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team defeated Susquehanna for the second time in six days, this time in the Landmark semifinal round to move on to Saturday's Championship. Finn Kristan netted a hat trick to lead the Blue Jays.

Kristan put home his first goal of the game at 9:55 of the first to give Etown a 1-0 lead. The River Hawks would tie it up later in the quarter.

Joey Killpatrick and Tristan Coleman worked around the crease area and the graduate student dished across the mouth of the goal to Coleman at the far post and quick caught it and slung the ball into the net to make it 2-1 for EC.

To end the quarter, the Jays had possession with 2.6 second left on the clock and the ball along the sideline after it had gone out of bounds. Rodriguez threw the ball alley oop style toward the goal where Lucca Scomillio was able to locate it and get it into the goal before time expired to send Elizabethtown into the second ahead 3-1.

Off the opening face off of the second, Graham Temple grabbed the ground ball and went straight to goal to tally Etown's second goal in eight seconds spanning two quarters.

Both teams scored twice in the quarter as the Jays went into halftime ahead 5-3.

The sides traded goals through the first 10 minutes as Elizabethtown maintained its two-goal cushion, but just couldn't shake the River Hawks. Peter Pitrelli, newly minted all-conference honoree, found Kristan for his second goal of the game to put the score at 8-6 and start a run of three straight for the Blue Jays after alternating goals. Alex Ly made it a three-goal game with 55 seconds left in the third and Landon Scully got inside with 10 seconds to go to up the advantage to four goals, 10-6, heading into the fourth.

The River Hawks got one back early in the fourth, but Kristan completed his hat trick with a man-up goal just as the penalty expired to make it 11-7.

Susquehanna had nine second-half turnovers, including five in the fourth quarter, making it difficult to get back into the game with possessions becoming a premium. The River Hawks also struggled in clearing situations while the Jays did not turn it over once (19-19).

Scully put the stamp on the game late with Susquehanna riding. He was able to sneak away from his defenders and lay the ball into an open goal.

Brayden Franey made nine saves in the game for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown faces the winner of Catholic at Scranton. The Blue Jays would host Saturday's Championship if Catholic prevails and will be on the road if the Royals come away with the semifinal victory. Championship start time is to be announced.
