#12 Moravian takes two from softball

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team battled nationally-ranked Moravian in the opening game, but fell in extra innings. The Greyhounds went on to get the sweep with a five-inning shutout in game two. Mikaela Benner recorded her 100th career strikeout for the Blue Jays in game one.

MORAVIAN 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 2 (F/10)
Game one was scoreless through four innings as Benner held the Greyhounds' offense in check.

After Moravian went ahead 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Etown took the lead in the bottom half with a pair of runs. Skye Zolomij's RBI ground out tied the game as Lexi O'Brien scored on the play. Next batter, Kristen Aydelotte, hit a ball to third and with Maddie Reever coming home to try and score, the throw was off line and got away, allowing the junior to score safely to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.

The Greyhounds got the run back in the sixth and eventually extra innings were needed.

Moravian scored four in the top of the 10th to grab the lead and Sarah DeStefano shut the door in the bottom of the inning to earn her 18th win of the year.

Reever and Zolomij each had two hits.

MORAVIAN 13, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (F/5)

Jess Dunn hit her team-leading 16th double of the season in the game. Zolomij also registered a hit for EC.

Elizabethtown will wrap up its home schedule with Wilkes on Saturday, May 3, at 1 and 3 p.m.
