FREDERICK, Md. -- Junior
Maddie Reever and freshman
Jess Dunn helped the Elizabethtown College softball team come away with a split at Hood on Monday with a 12-3 win in game two. The Blazers beat the Blue Jays in nine innings in game one, 5-4. Dunn hit her second home run of the season and Reever threw all seven innings for the complete game victory.
HOOD 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 4 (F/9)
Down a run, Reever singled in
Brooke Huczko in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Then, in the sixth, the Jays grabbed a 3-1 lead on
Riley Nolan's pinch hit ground out RBI and an error that allowed
Nicole Cecconi to score.
Hood managed to force extra innings with two runs in the seventh.Â
Neither team scored in the eighth, but the Blazers ended it in the ninth with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Skye Zolomij went 3-for-5 while
Izzy Akelaitis and Reever each had two hits apiece.
ELIZABETHTOWN 12, HOOD 3
Etown got out to a 4-0 lead in the first and never looked back in game two. The Jays were also able to take advantage of Hood's miscues defensively as the Blazers committed six errors in the game.
Dunn and Cecconi each had RBIs in the second to extend the lead to 6-0.
Hood got it back to a four-run game in the fourth, but Dunn responded with a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 9-3.
Elizabethtown scored three more times in the seventh.
Reever earned her second win in six days, going all seven innings for EC. She also added a hit and an RBI in the game.
Hannah Long, Zolomij, Dunn, and Akelaitis all had two hits in game two. Dunn recorded four RBIs, one off her season-high.
Lexi O'Brien also added a hit an a run driven in for the Jays.
Etown will play at Alvernia on Wednesday, April 23, with games scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
