READING, Pa. -- Alvernia was able to come away with a pair of wins in close games over the Elizabethtown College softball team on Wednesday at Angelica Park. The Golden Wolves won game one, 5-3, and game two, 5-4.
ALVERNIA 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
After
Skye Zolomij had doubled in the first inning,
Izzy Akelaitis brought her home with an RBI bloop single into center field to give Etown a 1-0 lead.
Alvernia grabbed two in the bottom half of the inning to take their first lead at 2-1.
Brooke Huczko and
Lexi O'Brien scored on an error by the Golden Wolves' defense in the fifth to retake the lead at 3-2.
Alvernia tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning and then took the lead in the sixth and held on for the two-run victory.
Zolomij had a pair of hits for the Jays.
Hannah Long, Akelaitis,
Maddie Reever, Huczko, and O'Brien each had a hit apiece in game one.
ALVERNIA 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 4
The Blue Jays trailed after the first inning this time, but only 1-0. Elizabethtown then plated four runs in the top of the second to go ahead 4-1.
O'Brien tied the game with her RBI single to score

Riley Nolan,
Emma Dahl, and
Sarah Birner added RBIs in the inning for the Jays as they went up by three.
The Golden Wolves got within a run by the end of the second, tied it in the third, then went ahead for good in the fourth as they held EC scoreless over the final five innings.
Elizabethtown is scheduled to play at Drew on Saturday, April 26, at 1 and 3 p.m.
