Reever earns first career win in Jays' sweep of Neumann

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team won both games against Neumann on Tuesday at The Nest thanks to complete game efforts from Maddie Reever and Mikaela Benner. Reever earned her first career win while Benner posted her team-best fifth win and third in a row. Jess Dunn went 4-for-7 on the day with five RBIs.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3, NEUMANN 1
Reever got plenty of help from Dunn at third base. The first-year made several inning-ending plays at the hot corner, including snaring a number of line drives off the Neumann bats.

Etown got all three of its runs in the third inning. Skye Zolomij hit a sac fly RBI to right to score Kristen Aydelotte. Then, with Emma Dahl at third and Hannah Long at second, Dunn came through with a two-RBI single through the left side.

The Knights scored once in the fifth, but that's all they'd get off Reever. The junior threw all seven innings for her first win as Neumann left nine on base.

ELIZABETHTOWN 5, NEUMANN 1
Benner followed up Reever's performance with another solid outing. She scattered seven hits over seven innings, only allowing one run with two strikeouts.

Dunn put the Jays up early with her sixth double of the season to score Long on the play. Then, Izzy Akelaitis stepped in and singled up the middle to plate Dunn from second as they led 2-0 after one.

Aydelotte knocked in Lexi O'Brien in the fourth with an RBI base hit to right.

Neumann got a run back in the sixth to make it 3-1, but Dunn came through with a bit hit in the bottom half of the inning to provide some breathing room, though in the end, Benner wouldn't need it. Dunn hit a two-RBI single to right, her second and third RBIs of the game. Brooke Huczko and Long scored to make it 5-1.

Despite the windy conditions, the fielders made the adjustments necessary to play any balls in the air. Huczko made several nice plays in the outfield and Zolomij caught a soft liner to end game two and give the Blue Jays the sweep.

Elizabethtown will play at Widener on Thursday, April 17, at 4 and 6 p.m.
