ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse trailed in the first quarter, but were able to overcome that slow start and put the clamps down on St. Mary's (Md.) Saturday afternoon to earn a 14-6 non-conference road win.
Tristan Coleman had a team-high six points while
Brayden Franey made 19 saves in goal.
By the 10:16 mark of the first quarter, Elizabethtown trailed the Seahawks 4-1 as head coach
Kyle McGuire used one of his timeouts. That break worked for the Blue Jays as they outscored St. Mary's 3-0 the rest of the quarter to take a tied 4-4 game into the second.
Evan Youndt had scored two minutes into the game, but it was the only goal for EC over the first 11 minutes until
Finn Kristan scored his eighth of the year and first of three in the game. Coleman and
Reese Levinson each used
Jay Rodriguez assists to tally the third and fourth goals at 2:42 and 2:04.
There were only two goals scored in the second and both were in favor of the Jays.
Nolan Krasnick scored a man up with under five minutes left in the half. Rodriguez added a goal to his two first-half assists to make it 6-4 with 1:44 left before the break. Elizabethtown led 6-4 at the half.
Kristan, Levinson, and
Jake Woodworth each netted goals to make it eight unanswered by Etown as they led 9-4 midway through the third. St. Mary's finally broke their scoreless drought with 7:12 remaining in the third, but it was their only goal of the quarter as the Blue Jays' defense tightened up, only allow two goals over the final three quarters of play.
Franey made 14 saves over the final 45 minutes to keep the Seahawks at bay while his offense kept it rolling.
Kristan added a man up goal to begin the fourth just 53 seconds into the quarter. Elizabethtown was 2-for-3 on EMO.
Gio Raso had four ground balls and a team-high two caused turnovers.
Peter Pitrelli also grabbed four ground balls for the Jays.
Elizabethtown will host Stockton for their home opener on Wolf Field on March 12, at 6 p.m.
